The sunlight peaks through the window, the last remnants of my dream start to fade. I struggle to lift my head from my pillow, as the sounds of the others in the room signal their stirring. I wait a few seconds, in order to let them rest as long as they can. Slowly the stirrings quiet. And then silence.
I creep off the side of the bed, and make my way across the room. My hand fumbles to find the doorknob, and opens the door slowly. I'm the only one awake. I enjoy the late nights and early mornings that I can keep to myself. The house being full of laughter and love, there are never any complaints. But the soft quiet moments, nothing can ever replace.
The clouds block the sun and is absence from the dark sky. I make My way across the hall holding on the railing to keep me standing. Quietly making my way down the stairs, one of the steps squeak with my weight. I pause and listen to the heavy breathing of the children. In. Out. In. Out. I'm safe. When I reach the bottom, I turn to make my way to the kitchen.
The refrigerator hums as I pull it open. I stand there looking at what lies in the fridge. Some cheese, ham, milk, leftover lasagna... Maybe I didn't need to eat right now. It was early, and it wasn't the best time to eat. I need to work on my weight anyways.
"You know you're hungry," a voice called , "grab it. You too skinny."
Crap. He's up.
"You are much too skinny." Glutton says, "You need to put some meat in those bones."
I let my head hang and sigh. One's up , the other six aren't that far behind. I guess this is what I get for being a roommate to the 7DSs.
