She watched him ran away from the waiting shed amidst the heavy rain pouring down. In her young heart, she was hoping he will be successful on the mission set upon him. Her eyes ached from crying starting early afternoon ‘til that rainy twilight and the thing that can redeem her emotions was for him to accomplish his task. And so he went on and left her.
Hours passed as she waited horribly. Her innocent mid began to create horrible hypothesis on what had happened to her best friend.
‘What if he was hit by a rummaging truck? Struck by lightning perhaps? Or fainted on the street?’
Worries on forfeiting the mission vanished from her stream of thoughts. What she began to be afraid of was not the punishment waiting for her at home but the thought of losing someone dear to her…
Tears started to gush, this time they were of regrets, grief and a whirlwind of emotions only that time surfaced.
She couldn’t help herself from sobbing. Wrapping her arms around her legs, she let go of her emotions and continued shedding tears on her knees. The things around her became inaudible except when a familiar bark came to her senses. In an instant, it seemed that the gates of heavens opened and choirs of angels began to sing a triumphant opus.
Tears continued to flow on her face – but those were of happiness now. Releasing her inhibitions and smiling from ear to ear, she ran towards him who was soaked under the rain holding on one hand the string connected to the collar of her lost puppy.
Amidst the pouring rain, she ran to him, arms wide open then hugged him like there was no tomorrow. She was grateful that the puppy was back but was even grateful that her bestfriend was back to her life.

“What are you looking at?” asked Ed, her new costumer.
“Those cute little kids,” Mary pointed at the little boy and girl nearby the restaurant where they are.
“Childhood sweethearts seldom ended up with each other,” he said in an as-a-matter-of-fact tone.
She can only agree. But she hoped that the little girl and boy will be an exemption. This world has too much tragedy in it. Might at least spare one. Come to think of it, this was the daughter of the man who has been her co-passenger on a bus months ago.
