Later that night after Elvis walked her back to her motel room, Melissa was standing at the window fastening another safety pin in the curtain. One more and the gap should be closed.

This was their last night in this place, but she wasn't taking any chances.

"You're definitely losing it, Melissa," Steph remarked, coming out of the bathroom.

Toni glanced up from the duffle bag she was packing. "I think pinning that curtains a good idea," She said. "Too bad we didn't do it before."

"I'm not talking about the curtain," Steph said."I'm talking about the way Melissa practically attacked that poor guy at the club tonight."

Toni pulled on a short white bathrobe. "If he's the one who's been bothering her, then he deserved it."

"Yeah, but what of he wasn't?" Steph asked. "It's a good thing we're leaving tomorrow. He'd probably call a psycho ward, make them come pick her up. You should have seen the look on his face. And his girlfriend's face. Talk about embarrassed!"

"Why don't you rub it in, steph?" Melissa said.

"All I'm saying is..."

"All you're saying is I acted like an idiot," Melissa interrupted. "Thank you very much. But even if I was wrong about him, it's over. We're leaving town. So why don't we just stop talking about it!"

Steph zipped her suitcase. "Fine," She said. "Want to talk about Elvis instead? I notice you've decided not to take my advice about him."

Melissa frowned and started to say something. Then she just smiled. She was feeling good now. Too good to let steph get under her skin anymore.

It was just after two in the morning. The buses left at eight. And Melissa still hadn't packed. She hadn't even changed her clothes yet.

Sighing, she stuck the last safety pin in the curtain and stood up.

The others were almost finished packing. Better get to it, she told herself.

She slung a big duffle bag onto the bed and unzipped it. As she crossed to the dresser to get some clothes, there was a knock on the door.

Without even thinking, Melissa opened it.

"I finally got you," Jimmy white said.
