I look in the mirror and check my makeup. A little bit of mascara with a touch of lip gloss. Understated, yet elegant. I look down at my clothes, skinny jeans with a black lace top my mom got me for christmas last year. What if the jeans are too casual? Or the top too fancy? I shake my head at myself. I'm being ridiculous. After all, it's just Kyle.

"Where are you going all dressed up?" I turn around to see Ethan standing in the doorway of my bedroom.

"I'm going on a date", I say, trying to be as casual as possible. Ethan clutches his heart in mock shock..

"My sister, innocent little Ember, on a date?" he exclaims. I frown at him.

"I've been on dates before", I say, offended.

"But not since last winter", he answers, "with what's his face, Mark was it?" I roll my eyes. My experience dating Mark was less than enjoyable. As well as being a jerk he also happened to eat, and kiss, like a pig.

"So who's the lucky guy?" asks Ethan, "Someone from school? Do I know him?"

"Actually yes", I answer.

"So who is it?" he asks. I laugh at his curiosity.

"Kyle", I repond.

"Kyle?" he exclaims, "You're going on a date with Kyle?"

"Yeah", I say, "do you have a problem with that?" I try to walk past him.

"For one thing he's my friend", says Ethan, blocking my way out of the room, "and for another, he's two years older than you."

"Come on Ethan", I say, trying to push him aside, "it's Kyle. Excuse me but he's going to pick me up soon." Just then the doorbell rings. Ethan scowls and lets me through. I walk downstairs, throw on my Vans and answer the door.

"Hey Kyle", I say.

"Hey Ember, Hey Ethan", says Kyle. I turn around and see my brother, who has conveniently followed me down the stairs.

"We better get going or we're going to miss the movie", says Kyle.

"I'll be back by eleven", I tell my mom, who's cleaning up from dinner in the kitchen.

"By honey", she answers. I step outside and close the door, following Kyle to his car.

"You should have seen your face when the corpse fell out of the closet", laughed Kyle.

"Well you were terrified when the giant spider monkey ate the girl", I respond.

"Hey what can I say, I'm not a fan of spider monkeys", he answers. I laugh. It was after the movie, Invasion of the Giant Spider Monkey, and Kyle was driving me back home. The night had been really fun, it turns out we both like horror films involving giant animals, and I had been able to see the side of Kyle that is often hidden, even when he is with the band. I guess I've always thought of him as the quiet drummer with not a lot to say, but it turns out he's got quite a lot to say if you just give him a chance.

We pull up to my house and Kyle stops the car. I sit there, unsure of what to do. Should I get out of the car? What if he wants to kiss me? Do I want to kiss him? I turn to Kyle. He leans in...and gives me a kiss on the cheek. I smile. Leave it to Kyle to know exactly what to do.

"I had a lot of fun tonight", I say.

"Me too", he answers.

"Well goodnight Kyle", I say.

"Goodnight Ember", he answers. I get out of the car and walk to the front steps of my house. I turn and wave. He waves back and I watch him drive away. I turn around and open the door, walking silently into the house knowing that my parents would probably be asleep by now. I shove my shoes in a corner and walk up the stairs. Just as I am about to open the door to my room I hear a noise behind me.

"How did your date with Kyle go?" I turn around to see Ethan in the door of his bedroom.

"Good, why are you so interested anyway?" I respond. Ethan shifts.

"It's just weird, having my sister going on a date with my best friend", he responds. I smirk.

"Well you're going to have to deal with it", I answer.

"Do you, like him?" asks Ethan, seriously.

"I don't know", I answer. We say goodnight and I go into my room, thoughts racing through my head. Do I like Kyle? How was I supposed to know? I change into my pajamas and fall into bed, I might need to think things through but not now, after all, I have to get up at four the next morning and I need all the sleep I can get.
