In the land of Oceracia there is a young boy by the name of Cobalt, though no would dare call him something as innocent as a "boy".
You see, Cobalt was a very...unique creature in the eyes of the people in the land. But before we start on him I will explain the hierarchy and classes of the land.

In Oceracia there's a group of holy figures called the Luoxis. They are sages that dedicate their lives to Lord Oxyalis, a being of pure light that has no distinct form. He watches over the land and blesses his people. Although he is not the "king" of the land, he is valued highly and is seen as the God of the world.

Sadly, there is no light without darkness. A member of Oxyalis' clan up in the clouds above was banished to the Underground, as he tried to overcome Oxyalis himself.

This disgusting creature took on the name Säraíth, but because no human being could utter such a foul name, the people called him Sarith.

Deep down under there Sarith created a whole world to himself and took on a the form of something that would represent him properly: a large, cruel dragon.

Sarith could not go above with the rest of humanity, so he lay there plotting a way to get back up to the world above and becoming his own lord to the people.

Thousands of years later, a youthful sage of the Luoxis group named Lufeyra dared to journey beneath to try and tame the beast. But because Sarith was a deceitful cunning beast, he took on the form of a meek human to try and fool the sage.

And it worked. A loving bond formed between the two, much more than friends could ever hope to be. Eventually she bore to him a child, in which he named Cobalt.

Once the child was able to live without his mother, Sarith reveiled his true form to her. Cowering before him trying to protect the child, he struck her down and the child his own to raise.

You see, Sarith planned to use the child as his ticket to the world above because he had mortal blood in him. Cobalt would be his key to unlocking the chains that held him down below.

Sarith started to teach Cobalt how to use the dark powers he inherited from him, such as shapshifting and dark generation. On Cobalt's sixth year of living below he completed his training as the successor of the Dark Lord.

Sarith was about to release his child up into the world above, but Oxyalis stopped him just in time.

A great battle began between them, for Oxyalis wanted to rescue the child from the wasteland and his cruel father. The ground tremored as the two clashed.

Eventually Oxyalis overcame Sarith and he took Cobalt up to where the humans lived where he would get a much kinder treatment, or so he thought.

The Luoxis saw the child as a monster, after all, he was the son of evil in it's purest form. They viewed him as a physical manifestation of Lufreyra's failure as well as their own.

In order to gain back their high pillar of respect and hide away Lufeyra's sins, they took the child in and tried to kill it, seeing as that would put in end to all of their problems.

Oxyalis would not allow them to kill an innocent child without convinction, so he placed a safeguard on Cobalt to protect him, but only if he didn't commit any crimes.

In their anger, the Luoxis decided to keep Cobalt locked up until he died, whether it he from old age or him trying to escape (which was a crime punishable by death).

To hide their selfish reasons for locking him away, they created a annual holiday called The Festival. At the end of this happy and joyful time they would bring out the son of the Dark Lord. The people would be allowed to hurt him in any way, as it would hurt Sarith the same way it hurt Cobalt.

And so our story starts on Cobalt's 13th birthday, or the 13th year of The Festival.
