I walked into the house to find my grandpa's in the kitchen. Then the front door opened and in ran my little cousins along with my aunt and uncles. They tried to hug me but I was feeling a little overwhelmed but everyone, causing me to back away.

I looked around, feeling anxious about being in the kitchen with everyone.

"Kaden?" I heard my dad say as I looked blankly at him. "It's okay. Take some deep breaths," he suggested as I closed my eyes and inhaled and exhaled a few times.

Opening my eyes, I looked at them, "sorry. Everything is a bit overwhelming."

"You know what we need? We need cake. How about everyone has a piece?" Cole suggested as I nodded.

He sliced up the cake he brought and placed slices on the plates before handing them to everyone. I went to sit down when there was a knock at the door. Getting up quickly, I made my way to the door, opening it, only to find Meadow standing there. I reached out and grabbed her wrist, yanking her inside.

"Ack!" She exclaimed as I slammed the door behind her. She rubbed her wrist, "a nice come in would have sufficed," she smiled.

"Sorry, it's just my family is here and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed," I explained.

"Kaden, your family won't hurt you. They care about you," she assured me.

"Yeah," I replied as I furrowed my brows.

"Just give them a chance," she reasoned as I sighed. I had just been released from the hospital, trying to adjust to my meds. Everything was amplified at the moment.

Then I felt a hand slide into mine and looked down to see Meadow was holding my hand. I instantly calmed feeling her hand into mine. We walked into the kitchen, hand in hand as everyone watched us. She guided me to a seat and Cole handed her a plate. She smiled and took it.

I leaned over and whispered, "I thought you didn't like cake?"

She took a deep breath and responded, "for you, I, will make an exception."

I watched as she took a bite and ate her piece of cake while I ate mine. Everyone joined us as we sat and ate cake. This felt nice to be around people.

"Grandpa Cole, why do we always have cake?" Jessie asked Cole as she ate her piece of cake.

"Who cares? It's cake," Brick told her as he devoured his piece.

"Actually, it's something my own grandfather started when I was a teen," Cole told them.

I sat there and ate my cake as Meadow said, "I'm curious to know why?"

Everyone looked at her.

"I've learned there's usually a reason behind everything and sometimes we need to find out before making a judgment," she explained as she looked at me and smile.

"When I was fourteen, I went through a dark period in my life. I disobeyed and lied to my parents causing a lot of problems, especially with my siblings. One day, Grandpa Luke cake over and sat me down while we had a piece of cake. He said the cake is used to celebrate moments, whether good or bad because cake makes everyone feel better. I held onto that because it was something just him and I shared together," Cole explained to everyone.

"Are we having a cake to celebrate Kaden being home?" Brody asked him.

"Yes, we are," he smiled at Brody.

"I like that," Meadow said to him as I turned and looked at her. "Sometimes we need to celebrate the small accomplishments as well as the big ones."

She looked at me and smiled. There was something about her smile that made everything seem better. Being around her made everything better.

Everyone stayed for a while before leaving. I decided to walk her home. She told me I didn't have to but I insisted, even though she just lives ten feet from me. I still wanted to walk her home.

We walked to her door and she turned to me, "this evening was nice Hardwick."

"Yeah, it really was," I smiled as she smiled back. I decided to take a chance and leaned over, giving her a small kiss on her cheek.

I pulled away and her expression changed. Her smile was gone. Oh god, I shouldn't have done that.

"I'm sorry," I whispered as I turned and left.

"Kaden!" She yelled after me but I just kept walking until I walk into my house.

My parents were standing there as I quickly walked by them, "Kaden?" Dad asked as I just went to my room and closed the door. I totally screwed up tonight. She said friends and I completely messed things up.

I turned on my video games and started playing. Then I heard a familiar voice come on, "long time no speak doomfist."

"Yeah," I said as I played.

"That doesn't sound good," she said to me.

"I screwed up. The girl I like told me we would try to be friends and I kissed her," I told Phoenix as I played.

"Well, I'm sure it's fine, it probably just took her by surprise. You need to relax and understand that you didn't completely screw things up," she reassured me.

"Maybe, it's just for the first time, I feel happy but my luck that won't last long," I sighed as I played.

"Give it time, you may just be surprised. Be sure to find me tomorrow at school," she reminded me as I agreed.

"Thanks, Phoenix," I said to her.

"What is family for?" She replied.

We played a bit more then I logged off. It's weird even though I never knew Amelia was Phoenix, I was glad I found out. All those nights, we played together and talked, she saved me so many times from going crazy.

I'm just sorry I had been a dick to her and Emily as well as Meadow. They didn't deserve it and if I ended up alone then it was my own doing. Who would want to live someone like me anyways? I know I wouldn't.

Tomorrow should be fun going back to school. I can see it now, the nutjob has returned, let the games begin.
