B A C K S T O R Y Theodore and Natasha Blackwood knew that neither of their daughters belonged in the Faction they were born in: Candor. Both the girls were always causing mischief and almost never told the truth... which were clear signs that they did not belong in Candor, but rather Dauntless. What their parents did not know was that both their children were Divergent.
Pandora was fourteen years old when her sister, Phoebe, took the aptitude test. Whenever she came home, she broke down and told Pandora her results: she was Dauntless and Abnegation — so, she was Divergent. She made Pandora promise not to tell anyone, since being Divergent got you killed... and Phoebe did not want to die.
Pandora did not tell a single person. And yet, a few months later, her family got a call from the Dauntless leader. Phoebe had killed herself.
It did not make sense though. Why would Phoebe ever want to kill herself? She was so full of life and love, and it did not feel right to Pandora at all. As well as being confused, she was enraged, and she was determined to figure out exactly what happened to her sister. She knew someone murdered her sister — most likely because of her Divergence.
She planned on going to Dauntless, no matter what her aptitude test said. However, whenever she took it, she found out that she was actually Dauntless... and Erudite. Just like her sister: Divergent. Pandora was advised to not take the same path her sister did, but she did not care. She wanted to figure out what happened to Phoebe. So, Pandora chose to go to Dauntless. While struggling with maintaining a high spot on the leader board and also trying to figure out who killed her sister, she falls in love with the very man who's responsible for Phoebe's death: Eric.
