The next couple weeks were some of the strangest in Delia's life. During the day, she spent time with Emile (when Teo wasn't hanging onto him like a bad smell) and read. But at night, her sleep was haunted by nightmares of ghouls and death. She often got close to no sleep at all.
Emile seemed to sense that she was having a hard time. One night, when the nightmares got really bad, she thought he comforted her. It could have been a dream- but she thought that she had heard his voice, singing a song that somehow pricked her memory. But the next morening, he acted as though nothing happened.
Delia wasn't sure when she started to crush on Teodora's helper. It seemed like she had like him forevver and had only just realized it.
He seemed to like her, too, spending less and less time with Teodora and more time talking with Delia. He knew a lot, especially about the cooler side of Wonderland- he took her to see where the March Hare was imprisoned and the last sighting of the Cheshire Cat.
"Isn't there any way to bring them back?" She asked.
"Only if Alice is dead," he replied softly. "Otherwise, we're all in the same boat."
"Not precisely," a voice interrupted. Two ghostly eyes appeared, followed by a shimmer in the air that might have been a smile. "I have it far worse than you two."
