I awoken to the bright, golden sun shining brightly down upon my hazel eyes. I started to roll over so I could cover my eyes from the sun but right when the other side of my tan, freckled face hit the pillow my Uncle Nelson open my surf-sticker-covered door. He walked over to my twin sized bed, grabbed my beach sheets and ripped off my tan, thin body. I rolled on my stomach to cover my face from the sun and my uncle.

"Wake up Kailani, it's time to get ready for your first day of work. Ma Kai Surf Shop can't sell surf merchandise or boards on it's own." My uncle said.

"Can't I just call in sick?" I asked with my mouth smooshed to my pillow.

"Because, I, the owner of Ma Kai Surf Shop, knows that your not sick." He explained

"Fine!" I moaned and rolled out of bed and wlked to my dresser.

"That's the spirit!... Kind of.... I'm going to get the shop ready. I'll see there in an hour." He told me.

"Okay Uncle Nelly." I said and he gave me a kiss on my forehead.

When he was gone I got up and walked to my dresser. I took out a pair of jean shorts and my Mai Kai Surf Shop uniform tank top. I went into the bathroom and brushed my teeth, my hair and walked out to put my shoes on. As I was walking to the door to leave I saw a picture of me with Uncle Nelly and my parents.

My parents died a few months ago in a car accident. I was devistated and I still am. After that happened I had to go into foster care until my uncle could get all the paper work done. Which was a lot. Along with getting me more than three-thousand miles from florida to Hawaii. Which made me worse. I have even over heard my uncle saying about how much of a mess I was and that he doesn't even know how long it will me to get picked up and happy. But honesty, I don't think I'll ever be happy. I may smile just that doesn't mean it's real. I haven't had a real smile on my face since the day my parents died, and I guess it will be the last time because how could I be happy with the fact that my mother will never be able to help me go dress shopping for my prom or my dad will never be able to walk me down the aisle on the day of my wedding because they're both dead and they're never coming back.

I shook my head and walked out. I walked over and hopped on my bike. I road down to the surf shop. As I road I looked at the beach The dry sand; the bright, beautiful sun; and the giant waves that crashed into the each other as if they were fighting about something. I watch the people on beach. The children making sand castles or playing in the water, the girls laying out hoping to get the perfect tan, the dogs playing frisbee with their owners, the guys chilling while either listening to music on the radio or hanging put in the water, and then there were the surfers.

I would see the same group of surfers everyday with their surfboards, gettig ready to catch some of the biggest waves you'll see that day. I remember last week, it was after my first day there. I was walking down the street, next to the beach and I saw a small group of surfers having a bonfire. One of them were calling for my attention.

"Aloha there, Wahine nani." He had yelled to me.

I turned around to face him. The guy had blonde hair that was to blonde, it was almost white. He was really tan with freckles all along his shoulders. He had bright blue eyes and a white smile.

"I haven't seen such a pretty girl like you around here. You new here?" he asked in a flirty way.

"yeah, I just moved in with my uncle. He owns Mai Kai Surf Shop." I told him.

"Wow! Really? I love that shop." he said.

"Thanks. My uncle works hard." I had told.

The boy had gotten up and walked over to me.
