I woke up to the sun on my tan face. Today was the day. The day when I get to surf with Noah. My heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest, I was so excited. I jumped out of my bed and ran to my dresser. I took out a white with blue striped string-bikini along with a pair of shorts, a light blue rash guard shirt, and my sandals. I got dressed and ran out of my room to brush my teeth and hair. I grabbed my beach bag and packed a towel, a brush, a container of peanuts for a snack. I ran to the garage and grabbed my surfboard.
As I was walking out I saw a jeep pulling into my driveway. It was a white with a spray-paint of the beach. I saw driving the beach jeep was Noah. He hoped out and walked over to me.
"Hey Kailani." He asked.
"Hey, How come you brought your Jeep? The becah is literally right there." I asked pointing at the beach which was literally right across the street.
"Because I'm taking farther down to where the good waves are." He said.
"Oh. Okay." I shrugged
"So you reday to catch some waves?" He asked cheerfully.
"As ready as I'll ever be!" I cheered.
"Awesome! because we have a lot to do before you start hitting the waves." He explained.
"Wait. I know how to surf. I just have never surfed the waves in Hawaii." I said.
"Exactly." He said.
I shrugged and he started laughing.
"Haha. Okay now let's hop in and head out." He declared.
We got into his jeep and headed out to this part of beach where Noah said he had the best waves for me to start riding.
As we road I watch the waves as they crashed into each other. Along with the reflection of the sun on the waves. As the sunlight touches the violent waters I start to think about the times when I would watch my father surf. He was absolutely amazing.
"That was AMAZING!" I would excitedly grunt to him.
"Haha! Well keep practicing and you'll be just as AMAZING as me. Maybe even better." he explained.
"You got it daddy! One day, I'm going to be so AMAZING and I'll be able to kick your butt!" I had cheered.
But now, I will never be able to do as I said. The only thing that keeps me connected with my parents is the ocean. Hearing the waves crash is like hearing their laughter. It makes me feel closer to them even though they're dead.
"Hey, quit your day dreaming. We are here. Ahead and get your board along with my board please." he said and I came back to earth.
I hopped out the car and started unbuckling the board. I took out my surfboard and then Noah's. I handed him his surfboard and we headed out to the beach. We walked awkwardly together down to the water. When we got to the water Noah grabbed my wrist and twirled around until I was facing him. When I faced him I ended up being so to him that our noses were a speck away from touching one another. I quickly moved away and started to blush. Noah for some reason was acting as if nothing had happened.
"Okay. Now lets go up a little so we can start start our warm-up." He offered.
I nodded, still blushing and walked with him to do some warm-ups. We started to do some stretches and then Noah took off his white tank top and started doing Burpee. I kept stretching as I watched him move up into a jump and down to do a push up. He had did so fast I couldn't keep up. Once we were done he grabbed my surfboards and laid it down in front of me.
"Okay. Now paddle." He demanded.
"What?" I questioned.
"You heard me. Lay on your stomach and paddle." He demanded again.
"I told you, I know how to surf." I reminded him.
"I know. But you don't know how to surf the waves in Hawaii." He told me.
"Is there that big of a difference?"
"Yes. now start paddling." he demanded jokingly.
I lied on my back and began to paddle on the hot sand.
"No, no, no." Noah said shaking his head.
"What's wrong?"
"You're putting too much stress on your shoulder."
Noah then went down on his knees and started moving my shoulders around in a circular motion.
"Close your eyes and relax." he whispered gently in my ear.
I did as he said. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
"Good. Now keep your eyes close and paddle."
I took a deep breath and began to paddle. I don't know what it was but everything felt the same. I don't why he is telling me to do all this.
"Awesome. That looks way better. Now here comes a wave. It's time to spring into action." He blurted.
I gripped the sides of the board and jumped into a squat position. I quickly stood up on my board and let out my arms like a bird while still slightly bending my knees. When I got up on my knees I lost my footing a little but I leaned to stay in balance.
"Nope!" he declared.
"Now what?" I moaned.
He then went up on my board and put the back of his hand on my back and the pawn of his other hand on my stomach. I'm started to hold my breath. I felt so weird. But it was a good kind of weird.
"You need to strengthen your core to help keep your balance. When your in the water, especially in theses waters, you only have one chance to get on your feet and ride the wave. If you loose you footing, even for a second, your in the water before you know it." He explained with his lips close to my ear.
I could feel his breathe blow against my hair and neck. It felt warm. Like when you sit by a campfire during winter.

We kept practicing until the sun fell. We watch as the sun set down into the sparkling sea. Noah and I sat on a towel. We so close together that our hips were touching one another. Noah's arm crossed behind me and my arm did the same.
"Isn't amazing?" he asked.
"Yeah, it's so beautiful. But it's sad that it doesn't last long." I told him.
"Yeah, but always comes back."
"And then it's gone again."
"Yeah but that doesn't mean that it gone forever."
"I know."
"Then why are you acting to negative?"
I paused. I didn't know how to respond. I did mean to act negative.
"Is there something wrong?" he asked.
"Uh... No! of course not." I said a little panicky.
I started to breathe a little heavily. My hear was pounding like a boxer pounding a punching bag. My pawns were starting to sweat. What the hell is happening go me?
"Do you want to practice again tomorrow?" He asked.
"Yeah... oh wait, I have to work tomorrow." I said disappointingly.
"Well then how about the day after that?" He asked.
"Well.. I'm going to have to move some things around but I think I could squeeze you in." I joked.
"Awesome, until then. Sea and Sky."
