Chapter 5: An Explanation

I was shocked. Had May just slapped me? Maybe I was right. Maybe she did want me dead. Her next words changed my mind.

"Do you have any idea how I felt when you plunged that dagger into your heart!? Did you even think for a moment that maybe you should've told someone what you were going to do!? But instead of saying anything nice to us or saying everything would be okay, you made it sound like you were killing yourself because of us! I thought that you were dead because of me! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW THAT FEELS!?"
"YES! I DO KNOW HOW IT FEELS! AMY IS DEAD! AMY IS DEAD BECAUSE OF ME! I'M THE ONE WHO SHOT HER! I WAKE UP EVERY MORNING THINKING HOW IT WAS MY FAULT SHE DIED! I WAKE UP AND WISH THAT I REALLY HAD STABBED MYSELF. I WAKE UP AND WISH THAT I WOULD SEE AMY SITTING NEXT TO ME AND SMILING! BUT I DON'T SEE HER BECAUSE I KILLED HER!" I began to sob.

"I... I killed her" I whimpered softly. I felt someone hugging me, Elijah probably. He let go and I heard May ask quietly,

"How did you survive?" Through my tears, I managed to say

"I *sniff* I turned part of my chest into smoke when I stabbed myself. I then turned my arm to smoke to get rid of the *sniff* tracker so that the gamemakers would think I was dead."

"How did you get your powers back?"

"The tracker jacker venom got the serum out of my system." May nodded.

"I'm just... I'm just glad you're okay..." I growled.
"Then why?"

"Why what?"

"Why did you tell Elijah to kill me?"
"I... I didn't..."

"I heard you that night before the finale. I heard you tell Elijah 'Kill Jake'"

"You didn't hear the whole conversation."

"What?"

"I told Elijah: "We have to make sure Shine doesn't kill Jake""

"W-why?"

"Because... you're my best friend... I didn't want you or Elijah to die..."

"I... I wanted you and Amy to win..."

"What? Why?""

"You two mean the world to me. I convinced Elijah to lose the games for Amy and you..."

"He did..." Said Elijah quietly.

"But.... Amy still ended up dead"

I heard a hoarse croak from the front door,

"If she did, then how is she here?"
