We all walked slowly into the old church looking at the chair that sat in the middle of the room. As soon as we laid eyes on the chair, we saw what appeared to be a man a blanket draped over him so we could not see his face or body. I outstretched my powers trying to breach his mind like I had done so many times to the soldiers at the base, but for some reason all my attempts were failing. I knew Wanda was doing the same thing, by her glowing red eyes.
"Talk. And if you are wasting our time-" She began but was cut off by a deep voice filling the old church.
"Did you know this church is in the exact center of the city? The elders decreed it so that everyone could be equally close to God. I like that. Geometry of belief," The voice said," Your wondering why you can't look inside my head." I moved closer to the man and focused my energy on him.
"Sometimes it hard." I commented, while Wanda stood next to my side.
"But sooner or later every man shows himself." Wanda finished and just as she did the figure rose the blanket falling off him. My eyes widened and Wanda gasped. An 11-foot robot stood above us, his glowing red eyes burrowing into us.
"Oh, I'm sure they do. But you need something more than a man. That's why you let Stark take the scepter." The robot said. I took a step back away from him, fearful of what he might do.
"I didn't expect. But I saw Stark's fear, I knew it would control him, make him self-destruct." Wanda explained. The robot gave a nod of his head and turned to walk around the room, with all of us cautiously following him.
"Everyone creates the thing they dread. Men of peace create engines of war, invaders create avengers, people create.... smaller people? Uh...... children! I lost the word there. Children. Designed to supplant themselves, to help them... end." The robot explained. I walked forward cautiously ignoring Pietro's worried glances.
"Is that why you've come? To end the Avengers?" I asked. He turned to me, but then back to walking.
"I've come to save the world. But also, yeah," He said, "Come with me, there's something I want you to see."
"But wait. Who are you?" I asked realizing that we had no idea who this robot was.
"I am the savior of this earth. I am Ultron." He answered before walking out of the church us following.
We followed silently and he led us back to the base where we were experimented on. He led us down the secret passage where Stark had stolen the scepter and I gasped at what I saw. Hundreds upon hundreds of robots worked together creating more of themselves. Ultron flew upwards and pulled a chain that was swinging loosely in the air.
"All of these.... All of these are-" Wanda began, but the robot cut her off.
"Me. I have what the Avengers never will. Harmony. They're discordant, disconnected. Stark's already got them turning on each other. And when you get inside the rest of their heads-" Ultron said only to be cut off by Pietro who had stepped closer to the robot.
"Everyone's plan is not to kill them." Pietro chimed in earning the robot's attention.
"And make them martyrs? You need patience. Need to see the big picture." Ultron explained flying closer to us.
"I don't see the big picture, I have a little picture. I take it out and look at it every day." Pietro said his hands moving with his words. I stepped forward standing next to him.
"You lost your parents in the bombings. I've seen the records." Ultron said. I nodded slowly my eyes beginning to water.
"The records are not the picture." Pietro said. I put a hand on his shoulder, but he didn't turn to me.
