I open my eyes, and I am relived the simulation is over. I look over to see Amar scolding at the ground and all the Dauntless silent, no jeering, just wide eyes. I smile devilishly. This means I did well, really well. I look over to the Abnegation boy to be scolding at the ground also. He just realized I was a threat.
I look over to Amar again and he slightly nods his head, excusing me. And walk out of the room with my head up and into the lunch room; after a while of searching.
I put one taco on my plate and walked over to an empty table, my pride quickly shrinking as I see all the other intimidating older Dauntless members, even though I am taller than half of them.
About a half hour later I feel someones, large hand grip my shoulder and the bench weigh down, turning beside me to see Kaiden giving me a weak smile.
"What?" I ask. "Nothing," he responds. "Just the fear landscape wearing off." "Ah." Is all I say, acknowledging him.
After a few moments of awkward silence Kaiden finally turns to me and says, "I heard that your last fear was your worst fear... What was yours?" He asked. I smirk at him. "What was yours?" I repeat back. He grins at the table then looks away. "Ill find out yours, don't you worry." He threatens. "Yah, we'll see."
Zoelton and Livia finally arrive to our table and sit across from us.
"That was horrible." Says Zoelton. I nod and run my hand through my hair. I look over to Livia. "What about you?" She doesn't answer and soon enough, walks away from the table.
"What's wrong with her?" I ask Zoelton. "I don't know just something with her fear landscape." He replies. I am tempted to tell him that his sentence is incorrect, that he told me he doesn't know and gave me the answer. But I restrain myself successfully.
Soon enough most of the other initiates sit with us at the now not so empty table. The last ones to come is that Abnegation kid and Amar and Tori.
The Abnegation boys face is flushed red and he looks like a wounded child. I decide to poke at him to see how bold he is.
"Jeez stiff," I say narrowing my eyes at him. "You look like your about to faint." At that Kaiden turns to me and grins, clearly appreciating my smart remark.
I hear Amar reassure the Abnegation kid about something, but not quite tuning in unable to hear over Kaiden's loud chewing.
"You said you weren't Candor, so why are you putting everything out into the open?" Zoelton asked Kaiden. "Huh?" Kaiden asks, still chewing. I stifle a laugh and then I see Amar shoot me a look.
"Non of you did as well as Four over here, though." He says, clearly stating it to me. Hah, I'm not intimidated by a scrawny Dauntless leader or an Abnegation kid. Apparently the boys a threat though, so I will have to gain on him.
The Abnegation boy, Four-?, frowns for an unknown reason at me. I frown to, not knowing why. Maybe because he knows I am displeased with someone else bragging about his better achievements. Could get no simpler than that.
"Hey Tori," Amar says. "You ever heard of someone only having four fears in their fear landscape?" he asks.
I give Zoelton a look and turn my frown in a straight line. Now it makes sense. Why is he hiding his real name though? Ill have to figure that out too.
I tune out for a while again, not having a lot of sleep the night before, worried about the choosing ceremony.
When everyone is dismissed I walk over to Four and put my hand on his chest, lightly but firm and narrow my eyes at him.
"What's your real name, again? Starts with an E?"
I said, dangling an empty threat over his head. I have nothing personal against this boy, he just needs to know I won't be taking orders from any Abnegation.
I furrow my eyebrows as he hesitates, thinking of something smart to say back maybe. Another empty threat, lie.
He raises an eyebrow at me. "My name is Four," he says. "Call me 'stiff' again and you and I will have a problem."
I roll my eyes.
You and I already have a problem.
I walk past him, shoving him in the process. We could have been friends. Too late, I guess.
As I reach the door, I already know Zoelton and Livia are behind me. The way Livia drags her feet, and how Zoelton makes so much noise almost stomping with each stride.
I push the door open using my elbow.
"You all are excused for a day. Settle in." Said Amar, although I wasn't waiting around for his permission.
I am relived i'll have a day off that quickly. But why?
"Well Zoelton, what should we do today?" Livia asks behind me. "I don't know,-" he responds, before I interrupt him. "Get a piercing." I suggest. They both look at me socked. "What?" I ask. I act like there is absolutely no reason to it, but that would be lying. "Whatever you say, nerd." Livia teases I roll my eyes and slow down so I am in between them.
"This is so stereo typical," begins Zoelton and I furrow my eyebrows at him in confusion. "Everybody gets it within the first week of training, well a tattoo I mean." He explains.
"Well, maybe if you weren't such a pussy you could start by getting a piercing for a change." I smirk at him. He sighs and mumbles something under his breath.
"I think i'll do it too Eric," Says Livia, "Just to have something to stab Zoelton with if he tries to attack me, again."
"Wait, what?" I say kind of creeped out.
Zoelton gives me an annoyed look. Livia pulls up her sleeves and shoves her wrist into my face, and I flick it away so I can focus. I see a large scar going down her arm. It looks like it was much bigger before, like it healed over a long time.
"Zoelton and his brother Ariton had an overdose of Amity serum at Ariton's apartment while I was there sleeping because I have recently got surgery to remove the last of my cancer, when they were playing truth or dare and Ariton dared him to scar someone he has feelings for. Needless to say Zoelton does not have a way with the ladies." She explained all in one breath.
We finally stopped in front of the tattoo parlour and Zoelton's face flushed red. "No wonder you got Candor Livia, geez. Could've you spared any details?" I asked laughing to myself.
"Okay then," Zoelton says, trying to change the subject. "Lets go then."
The three of us entered the tattoo parlour alone not waiting for any of us, and I found four silver rings I wanted applied.
"Eh. Don't overload your face just yet, you don't want a squirmy initiate to grab ahold of those, trust me." A deep voice behind me recommended. I almost shitted myself when I turned around. A tall tanned male about 6"8 (taller than me) with short brown hair sticking out in every place, with grey eyes looking down at me.
"Ethan," he said, and then moved one of his fingers to his left jawline. "See this?" he asked, referencing to a reddish tiny scar. "Max Pearton, ripped this out. You don't want that." He said.
"No," I said to him. "I think I would like one here," I said dragging my pointer finger across my eyebrow, "here," I said dragging it across my right nostril, "and two here." I continued on my right jaw line.
He frowned at me. "Alrighty then." He said.
He might be big and intimidating, but why let a little scar scare everybody away from what they want? I wasn't going to let what somebody else might do effect my desires or wishes.
