I sit in the back seat of Kelsey's car blindfolded. I twiddle my fingers nervously. They didn't tell me where we were going. All they said was that it was time for mine and two other girls initiation. They already dropped off the other two girls. We're all being placed in different parts of the same area. We have nothing with us. I'm glad that I threw on a sweater before leaving because even with the warm LA temperatures, it's kinda chilly. The car starts to slow down and my hands rub together without me even trying to do it."Alright Y/n," Kelsey says. "It's time." She tells me. I feel my body shake as I nod my head. "I'll explain what exactly you have to do before we kick you out." A few of the other girls giggle. "We're dropping you off in The Forbidden Forest." My eyes widen.
"From here you have to find your way back to the house by ten o'clock tomorrow morning. Right now it's ten at night so you have twelve hours." She says. "But be careful. For we all know the stories about this forest."
I gulp and nod. Two of the girls then help me out the car. "We have your phone. Count to a hundred before taling off your blindfold."I then hear the sound of their tires skidding across the ground as they race off into the night. I don't even wait for the whole one hundred before pulling off the tight blindfold. Once its off I feel like I can finally breathe again. Then I suddenly remember where I am. I'm in The Forbidden Forest. So many rumors. So many stories. So much death and saddness. If its all true then I feel so horrible to invading.
The rumors say that there is a mansion out here in the forest somewhere. Some people have claimed to see it before, but they were all kids who all described the place differently. Some say that it's an alternate reality which is why there are so many different descriptions of it. The story is that a guy owned the mansion with his wife. Then they had a party and none of them were ever seen again and the mansion has been invisible ever since.
I feel a shiver creep up my spine as I think of all the different things about this place. Looking down at my watch I see that it has already been five minutes. I have to get moving now. Scanning the area around me I can't seem to figure out where we even drove in from. Reaching into my pocket I pull out a flashlight.
"Had a feeling I'd need this." I chuckle.
Shinning it on the ground I dont even see any tire tracks.
"What the hell?"I turn around in one large circle and notice that there would be no way for a car to fit through here. The trees are so close togethet that Kelsey's car, or any car for that matter wouldn't be able to fit. Fear overwhelms me. I have to take in long and deep breaths to calm myself down.
"You need to think straight Y/n." I mumble to myself. "If you're going to get into this Sorority then you are going to have to rely on your brain."
Taking another look around it almost seems like the trees have changed where they are and how they look.
"Just seeing things." I assure myself and start to walk toward the way I was facing.I keep my flashlight on the ground as I walk through the scary forest. The ground is riddled with plant life. No flowers though. Half dead grass with vines everywhere. Moss is on every tree and its hard to see the sky through the thick leaves above my head. I push my fear aside and push myself to keep going forward. My eyes start to get use to the darkness and before I know it, its been a half an hour since I've started walking. As I look at my watch to see it's ten thirty-six, I stop and glace around me once more. The scenery looks the exact same. It's almost like I haven't moved. I turn to look behind me. Shining my light on the ground I see that I haven't left any footprints.
What? That doesn't make any sense.
Leaning down to the forest floor, I press my hand on the ground. Its freezing cold which is odd. Thats not the think that confuses me though. When I press my hand into the ground it leaves my handprint. After a few seconds though it slowly fades away as if the ground just bouced back up. I quickly jump back up and continue to stare at the ground. My eyes stayed glued to it as if I'm waiting for something to crawl out and tell me that its just messing with me.
"This place really is creepy."
I start to walk forward again when I feel cold air blow against my neck. I stop dead in my tracks and slowly look over my shoulder to see nothing. There isnt any wind either. I just go back to walking ahead of me.
"Hello~" A whisper tickles my ear.
I whip around to see no one is around me. "I'm just going crazy." I tell myself.
I check my watch to see that it's almost eleven. My eyes feel droopy.
"You're so close to a warm bed~" The same voice whispers. "Very close~"
I shake my head and put my back to a tree. I then slowly slide down.
"I need a quick break." I say while flipping off the flashlight.
"Come over here~ To your left~"Left? What's left?
Curiously, I stand back up. I go to turn my flashlight and nothing happens.
"Perfect."
I start to head left. I finally feel like I'm getting somewhere. My feet seem to float off the ground. Even though I'm tired I speed up to a jog, then a run, then a full on sprint."Good~ Good~"
I don't pay any mind to the voice that feels like its right in my ear. All I care for is getting to whatever is pulling me. I feel a connection to wherever I'm going. I pump my arms faster, dropping my flashlight. My brain doesn't even register it at first. The need to get there, wherever there was, was to strong. My body involuntarily dodge every tree in my path. I can't even think. The desire feels like its pulling directly on my heart, my soul.
My legs stop. My eyes widen. My breathing is deep as my lungs try to pull in much needed oxygen. There, though the trees is something I didn't think i was going to see.
