"We each have our innermost desires...something that connects with our hearts, something that becomes us..."

That thought sounded Kade's mind as his philosophy teacher spoke of some guy back in Greece. Kade was as usual, dozing off in class. He didn't really care much for his classes, it was the people in them that he cared for. He was naturally, a humanist, as that's how he was brought up. He looked over to his friend across the room, Jack. Jack was doing the same thing, except he was actually disrupting the class. They were both very smart people, but Jack didn't really care for much of anything if it wasn't his girl. As always he was messing with kids that didn't like to be bothered. The local nerd, Ivan, was always his prime target, though they were sort of friends. Regardless, Jack was a nice guy, loyal if you said the right things...

"Jack, Ivan, do you want to share with the class what has you so enthralled with each other?" Mr. Li had definitely cornered Jack now...but he retaliated quickly,

"Your mother!" That really set the class off. They couldn't stop laughing at Jack's quip, and their laughter soon spread to Kade.

"What's so funny about that?" Mr. Li looked puzzled, he wasn't exactly the most kept up with the times. The bell rang and it signaled that it was time for lunch. Kade got up and gathered his school supplies. As he was walking out, he looked back to see old Mr. Li, still in deep thought about Jack's wise-cracking.

Lunch was probably not the best time for Kade. Everyone in the school, though they had a small school, was packed into the cafeteria. Kade already packed his lunch, so he spotted an empty seat next to a kid named Finch. No one usually sat next to him, but at least it would be better than sitting next to one of those popular kids that are always so annoying.

As he sat down in front of Finch, the boy looked up and locked eyes with Kade. Kade was caught off guard, as Finch just pointed behind Kade. The next thing that he knew was that he was laying face down as Karl stood above him.

"Oooh, watch out Kade! You gotta be careful!" Karl began taking some of Kade's lunch and even some of Finch's. "You won't need this, bird boy."

All of a sudden a foot wearing a red shoe connected with Karl's face. Karl feel to the ground next to Kade, but instead, he was out cold. Kade's savior reached a hand out and helped him up...

"Thanks, Jack. You really saved me back there..." Kade and Jack had vacated the cafeteria and moved themselves to the roof, where it was slightly safer. It was quite a sight to see, the local 'mob boss' taken out by the local 'Romeo'. Good thing Romeo had a martial arts back ground.

"Eh, it was nothing. Kinda would have liked to have stayed and taught his lapdog, Shawn, a lesson himself. That bastard will laugh at anything..."

They finished their lunches and Jack pulled out his cell phone.

"Hey, who are you calling?" Kade already knew the answer, but sometimes it was fun to see how Jack talked.

"I'm calling Anne, silly. Wow, that wasn't the manliest thing I've ever said..." Anne was his girlfriend, he actually really cares deeply for her. That's what Kade wanted in life. He wanted to care for everyone, and for everyone to care for him too. He was glad for friends like Jack, who showed him how to care. Kade smiled and jumped off the roof. He waved to Jack as he headed off to be early to the next class.

In the halls he passed by Chris and Aran. They were discussing last night's math homework, which Kade 'forgot' to do. At first glance, you could tell they were nerdy, but they were the female type of nerdy, one's that would actually seem attractive to guys. Nick, the school's hall monitor, passed by and told them that they needed to be with a teacher. Aran began walking, but Chris and Nick went to have a 'private chat' in the janitor's closet. Kade thought on this, the only thing that he could come up with is that even hero's have urges.

When Kade made it to math class, he sat down next to Ivan. Ivan wasn't so bad once you got used to him, he was actually kind of fun, but you just had to get to know him. The only people in the room were Kade, Ivan, and Aran. Of course, the teacher was busy typing away on her desk, but Kade went back to thinking on what Mr. Li had said a little while ago...

"I wonder if he's still as puzzled as I am...what is my desire...?"
