Silence.

That was all there was. Almost like when you're with your friends and someone says something they should've kept to themselves and then there's this awkward silence that nobody really knows how to break.

Yup. THAT kind.

Keeping my eyes trained on him, I slowly reach into my belt to pull out my throwing stars.

Which in reality, was one of the most useless weapons to have, but considering how far away he was, they would suffice.

He caught onto my plan all too soon and jumps down 10 steps to the bottom. But the idiot somehow manages to slip on the carpet beneath his feet, pulling a table down with him causing it to fall down with him along with all of its contents.

Karmas a bitch.

I look down only to see him sprawled on the floor, face down. Completely still. The thing looked like it was barely breathing. I couldn't help but feel like something was wrong. I mean, the fall was bad, but not bad enough for it to kill him.

Drama Queen.

I decide to leave it for now and go back upstairs to finish what I started. I climbed up the stairs and began walking down the hallway. The only sound that could be heard was the sound of my sneakers against the wooden floors.

Once I reached the bedroom I noticed that the door that I had just escaped from was closed.

My head cocked to the side as my face scrunched up in confusion. I pressed my ear to the door and I could hear shuffling coming from the inside. I stayed there for a while longer and I finally heard what I was waiting for.

"911 what is your emergency?"

He had it on speaker phone.

"There's someone in my house and they killed my wife." Was his reply.

He didn't even sound a little sad at the fact that his wife lay lifeless right next to him.

Before anything else was said, I kick the door open and make my way into the bedroom. When he looked up at me, he gave me nothing but a bored expression on his face that said

'Your'e joking'.

I began making my way towards him when he began talking.

"Listen kid, I have the police on the phone and my security is already on the way so unless you want to get thrown in jail. I suggest you stay back and wait for the police and I'll tell them to let you off easy. Huh?" he bargained

"Sir? Are you there?"

"Yeah, I'm here" he assured. His voice slightly shaking, not taking his eyes off me.

I was smiling at the fact that he apparently wasn't scared of a "little kid" yet still felt the need to contact the police. But my smile quickly disappeared when I heard the operators next words.

"The cops are almost there."

Fuck.

I had no time to react because the next thing I know, someone grabs my hand and starts running out of the house, dragging me with them. When we reach the bottom of the stairs I stop running causing him to stop as well. And when he did, I couldn't believe my eyes.

Drama Queen.

"Are you coming or should I just leave you here to die?"

I was about to say something when a voice interrupted me. "BOTH OF YOU STAY WHERE YOU ARE, THE POLICE ARE ALMOST HERE."

His voice was enough for me to snap back into action. I let go of his hand and ran out the back door, making my way down the steps and ran towards the woods. Not my favorite place to be at this hour but it'll have to do. As soon as I entered the woods and made sure I was out of sight, I ducked behind a tree to try and find out where the hell this boy went. Where did he go? When did he even leave? But the question that really had no explanation for...

Why would he help?

If he was anything like me then I know for a fact that the first thing you're taught is to always and I mean always, have each others backs. But the thing is, I'm almost positive he's not my family, or else I would've known who he was. Growing up in a mob house, you learn to be friends with everybody, especially if you're the boss's daughter. I know for a fact that he was either an assassin that has absolutely no ties to a mafia, or... Yeah, thats all I got.

Stepping back from the tree I began walking through the woods. The monster like trees and the sound of leaves crunching underneath my feet were the only things distracting me from what I was really afraid of...

My father.

How do you tell a Mafia leader that you failed one of the simplest missions that could ever be handed to you? An assassination. Simple stuff, get in, kill them, and get out. And I still managed to fail. Although, that little weasel was the only reason I fucked this up. So in reality, this is all his fault and I'm just an innocent bystander in all of this.

He did save you though... The little voice in my head spoke.

Yeah well if he hadn't interfered in the first place, there would have been no reason to save me in the first place now, would there?

Even though I love my father, and I'm sure he loves me too. He is a ruthless leader, and anyone who fails to get the job done will be punished. Being his daughter doesn't make me an exception.

All my life, even when I was just a child, my father always taught me to play fair. Which means: no special treatment for me. Although, I had no idea what to expect.

I have never failed a mission before.

I guess I was too lost in my thoughts to realize that I had entered a large clearing. I moved to stand in the middle and looked up at the sky, it was truly a beautiful sight. The dark sky decorated with billions of bright stars. I sat down and reposed my body on the trunk of a tree and shut my eyes. I was so calm and relaxed.

Until I felt something moving right next to my face.
