Hey, my little bluejays!
Okay, so this is my first author's note ever. Most likely, this is going to be the first book I ever finish. It's going to be a long journey, and I'm glad I'm going to go through this with you.
Oh, who am I kidding? Nobody's going to read this book anyway, so I'm not going to write something sappy. Heck, I ain't even gonna be sassy, because I really can't be sassy.
Like, I'm horrible at being sassy. *snaps fingers in Z formation* That's literally all I know about being sassy.
So, anyways, I'm Aar Jay! If you didn't get it already, I'm horrible at communication, and tend to be incredibly awkward (pretty ironic, then, that two of my favorite things are public speaking and writing, both of which I've had people say I'm good at). I love singing, playing piano, and doing logic puzzles. I also love to write (shhh....please don't tell anyone, it's a secret), especially poetry.
And of course, I cannot live without my trusty stack of books (All my Ender's Game, The False Prince, and Lois Lowry fans, ya here? Don't forget PJO, and Harry Potter, and Divergent, and The Hunger Games, and the Inkheart series, and the Sherlock Holmes book series, and Agatha Christie, and His Dark Materials, and the Uglies series, and John Green's books, and The Boy On The Wooden Box, and every other book series in existence. Oh, and don't forget TGGBB).
Holy hummus, I just realized how hard writing an author's note is, and I'm not even remotely good at it. How do all those Wattpad authors do it? How are they so likeable?
I don't know, so let me just continue with the author's note.
This story, like many stories, started in the shower with a thought. I started thinking about many of my favorite dragon books, and I sort of realized that it's always the dragon rider who has the conflict. The dragon's always the pillar, the support, the one who shares the rider's main conflict but doesn't bear a lot of the side conflicts and internal battles. They're usually very calm, collected individuals who always have a good mind about them, and sometimes they can even be all-knowing. Also, dragons in many other dragon books tend to be one of the strongest or rarest ones, and I just think that maybe a main character should be normal every once in a while.
I wanted to change that, so I decided to write a book where the dragon is coping with problems of their own, and is weak in some places. #dragonsarepeopletoo! It's probably not very original, but I've decided to go ahead and greenlight the idea.
Now, to the part where I threaten you if you copy my story.
Please don't. I'm quite sure you can write something just as good, if not better. I'm just a girl with a passion for English, and copying my story doesn't help anyone in the end. Trust me, writing your own story is much more rewarding and fun!
So, if you plagiarize off of me, I WILL FIND YOU, AND I WILL...I WILL REPORT YOU TO THE PROPER AUTHORITIES.
Look at me, quoting Liam Neeson! I haven't even watched Taken, but I know the quote.
Everyone knows the quote.
Also, I'm not a professional, so I WILL make mistakes, whether they be plot-wise or grammar-wise. If you see a mistake, please correct it nicely. I don't mind if you put an asterisk and then the correct spelling. Just please don't leave comments like "Ugh! This author cannot spell! Die!" You get the idea.
That's it for my rant! And remember, if you plagiarize, my avocado army will haunt you for eternity!

Without further ado...the story.
