My first day of school was great. It went so fast, but so slow. I got two things today... a boyfriend and a black eye. My eye is starting to heal though, I still have to use makeup so my mom won't notice. I'm walking to homeroom when I see the girl that I bumped into in the morning, she is talking to Chris. I approach then slow and shy, but confident at the same time. "Hey Chris...uh are you okay?" I say in a worried voice. "Yeah. You're little boy toy didn't even leave a bruise." I want to slap him for calling him my boy toy and weak, but I just let it go. "So you're not mad at me...are you?" Probably a dumb question to ask someone who just got in a fight because of me. "Actually I kind of am." he says with a crack in his voice. "Why? You're the one who ended up punching me!" I end up yelling even thought it wasn't my intention to. "It was an accident! Not my fault you got in the middle." Now I really want to slap him! "You know what, forget it." I look at the girl I bumped into. "Are you two a thing now?" I ask her. "Kind of. Why?" she says confused. "No reason. But did he approach you and say 'not to sound thirsty, but you are really pretty'?" She looks at Chris, then back at me. "Yes." I smirk. "There's one thing We have in common." I walk away and in the corner of my eye I see her slap Chris and walk away from him.
.....
"Diamond wait!" I turn around and see James running towards me. At that moment I notice his curly brown hair, sea blue eyes, pink lips, and glowing skin tone and I think to myself how lucky I am. "What's up James?" He is sweating, which I find very attractive. "Do you need someone to walk you home?" I smile and reply "I do now." So he takes my hand and We walk to my house together. Half way home I remember I forgot that Destiny and I usually walk home together! "Shoot!" James looks at me worried. "What's wrong?" "I forgot to get Destiny so We could walk home together, she's gonna be so mad at me." Out of nowhere I hear someone say "Your dang right she will be!" I feel my body go numb as I see Destiny jogging towards me. "Desty I-" Before I can say Sorry she cuts me off. "You forgot about our back to school tradition! I waited by the school door for you for thirty minutes, finally I left and one of my friends drove me halfway to my house then dropped me off because she had to go somewhere." I feel so guilty. I don't even know what to say. "It's my fault Destiny, I rushed her out of the school." I'm thankful for James helping, but I'm pretty sure he made it worse because Desty looks at him like she is...Jealous or something. "Whatever. I'm going home." I feel something snap on my heart. "Desty. Are you mad?" I ask scared that she might snap at me. "DUH I'M MAD! YOU BARELY TALKED TO ME ALL DAY BECAUSE YOU WERE TO BUSY WITH MR. JAMES OVER HERE! THEN YOU FORGET ALL ABOUT OUR BACK TO SCHOOL TRADITION!" I'm shocked. She's not mad because I left her, she's just jealous. "I... uh. I'm sorry. I don't know what to say." I look down at my feet then at James then at our hands holding then at Desty. "Well congrats Diamond. You got a black eye, got a boyfriend and lost your bestfriend in one day." With that she storm off. And I yell "YOU ARE TOTALLY BEING DRAMATIC!" I let out a long sigh and smile at James and We continue our walk back to my house without saying much.
.....
"Thanks for walking me home, James." He leans in and gives me a kiss. When he pulls back I feel unsatisfied and I pull him back against my lips. We kiss and when he tries to take it farther I pull back, smile and walk inside. I look through the window and see him ruffle his hair then walk home. It feel like this one day has been a whole year. So much happened, which reminds me, I need to call Desty. But before I can I see my mom pop out of our big kitchen. "Hey Days, how was your first day of school?" I love that she calls me days, even though it doesn't really go with my name. "Great, but horrible." I think of the fight and my black eye that is covered with makeup. Then I think of Destiny. "Need to talk?" she questions. "No I'm Okay. I got to call Destiny. I'll be right back." I run up our spiral stairs and walk to my big, red room then take out my phone and dial Desty's number. She doesn't pick up. She must be really mad.
