Sitting still in his presence, his presence engulfs you completely.

You feel his grace, mercy, peace, joy, and love.

Exult his name for he is worthy!

Be still, and know that he is God!

Feel his peace engulf you, and thank him for it.

You will become speechless.

You will bow in awe of his love, for we are his creation, and he is mighty.

He will take control of all circumstances if you let him.

The battle is his, so be still and let him fight it for you.

He will give you perfect peace and rest in his presence.

Trust him with all your worries.

He will shelter you in times of storm, for he calms all storms.

Be still, and know that he is God!

Notes:

Years ago, I attended a woman's retreat, and this was its theme. I wrote this poem years before that. I wanted to share some thoughts about this poem and the sermons from that retreat.

First: Psalm 46 talks about God being a refuge in times of storm and war. He declares for us to be still. This means to cease from striving, fighting, and worrying. He desires to show his favor on your life, so why worry?

He wants us to surrender all of our trials, battles, worries to him. Let him fight for us. When we surrender, he shows his love for us. How do we receive his favor?

1. Become righteous: seek purity, repent of sin, live holy. Let him fill you with his Holy Ghost fire. Choose to serve God only. You can not serve God and Satan. Get rid of weaknesses by asking God for strength.

2. Repenting of sin. Asking God to cleanse us and humble ourselves.

3. Giving hospitality to others.

4. Being a seeker of God. When we seek God, we find him (1 Chronicles 16:11). If we seek God, he will provide as well. If we stop seeking God, we will feel far away from him.

In 2 Chronicles 20, Jehoshaphat and the inhabitants of Jerusalem prayed and sought after God to help them. He stated in vs. 17, "Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with You." The battle is his if we will only stop and give God the control.
