Alex’s POV

He will never change will he? That Malfoy really is getting on my nerves. He only cares about himself rather than the responsibility that he has. I know the hours weren’t forgiving but at least it puts everyone at ease knowing they are safe. I would sacrifice my own sleeping time just to be contented knowing they are safe too. All prefects are also sacrificing their sleeping time just to patrol the grounds.

“Alex!” I stop on my tracks and I was immediately tackled by Maggie hugging me from the back.

“How are you? I haven’t talked to you in a long time.” Maggie says as she lets go of her tight hug.

“I’m fine Maggie. How about you?” I asked as we continued to walk down the corridors.

“I’m good too. I just have to run to the library to get my book. I forgot it.” Same old Maggie always forgetful.

“Should I get you a ‘remember me ball’ for Christmas?” I giggle.

“Don’t you dare Paige!” Maggie playfully slaps my shoulder and tries to look serious but fails.

“Okay, okay, I was just kidding.” I laughed.

“I have to run Alex! Hogsmade on Saturday yeah?” She says waving she was already a few feet away from me.

“I promise!” I yelled back. Maggie smiles and finally sprints towards the library.

I turned to the opposite corridor and quickly made my way to Professor McGronagall’s office.

“I see.” Professor McGronagall finally speaks after I told her about Malfoy’s outburst in our common room.

“I know how he feels professor, I understand that he is stressed but we are both carrying the same load here.” I explained. He has the same hours of class as me and we always patrol the hall together and go back to the common room together. I was equally over worked as he was.

“Are you okay with this Miss Paige?” She asks as she places her chin over both of her hands. “Patrolling the halls without a partner at the weak spots of the barrier.”

“I am fine with it Professor.” I nod. Maybe the stress just got to him so he was acting like this. Maybe I should just cut him some slack.

“I will talk to Mr. Malfoy soon. Take care Miss Paige.”

I simply nodded and exited the office. I know it has been a long month but only a few more weeks before the barrier is complete, just a little bit more sacrifice. Once it is finished my schedule will go back to normal and I can sleep peacefully.

“Good Evening Alex.” Marco greeted me as he saw me approaching the portrait hole.
