Panda researchers and scientists in the 1980s started looking at the panda more closely and started an argument on whether it should be put in the bear family or in the Racoon family. They started this debate because it had the shape of a bear, and the same strong body of a bear, but its eyes were surrounded by the same black that a Racoon had and it didn't hibernate. They later decided that it should be in the bear family because it has most of the features of a bear, so they decided it should be in the bear family.
