"I'm sorry I've been so mad. I just know about---" Lindsay stopped short. She knew she slipped up, and said something she shouldn't have.
"What? Tell me, Linds." Kayla said.
"Fine. It's two things. One, Caiden said to tell you...it's over, and that he loves Pria."
Kayla's heart stopped beating for a second. She was struggling to process what Lindsay just said.
"Second, I talked to your dad the other day."
"You talked to dad?" Kayla asked, unsure of herself.
"Yeah. Kayla, your moving."
Kayla couldn't move again. She couldn't breathe. Her vision got fuzzy. She couldn't decide which pounded a bigger whole in her heart. She could probably live without Caiden, but the fact that he loves Pria about killed her. Did he ever love her? Or was their 'love' just a game to him?
She couldn't grasp the fact that they were moving from Moweaqua, their small little town. She thought her family loved it here as much as she did.
She went home, disgusted with the world. She threw open the front door of her house and ran straight to her mother.
"How long were you going to keep this up?" She demanded. "I know what you've been keeping from me."
Her mother was shocked. "Kayla! What's gotten into you? Are you alright? What secrets are you talking about?"
"You told my best friend, but you didn't have the courage, the strength, to tell me? Your own daughter, who will support your decisions?" Kayla said, a little louder than she'd intended to.
"Hun, I think we're going to have to make a doctors appointment with doctor Browning." Her mother replied, a little on edge.
"No. I think you just need to stop keeping things from me. Like, for example, the fact that we're MOVING!" Kayla said, yelling now.
"Moving? Who said anything about moving? I love it here and I will do nothing of the sort!" Her mother replied, in obvious shock.
"Yeah, mom. Don't play dumb. Lindsay said she talked to dad."
"Well your father hasn't talked to me!" Her mother was raising her voice now. "JAMES! GET IN HERE!" Kayla had never seen her mother yell before, and it shocked her especially because it was towards her father.
"What did I do?" James, Kayla's father, said nervously.
"We're moving?" Her mother said, starting to cry. "James, I don't want to leave."
"I know. Neither do I. But--wait, how did you find out?" He asked.
"Lindsay spilled it." Kayla answered, even though the question wasn't directed to her.
"Dang it! I told her that in trust! But no, she goes and tells everyone. That's great. Just...just peachy." He said, clearly irritated.
"Dad, you should've told us. Why are we moving, anyway?" Heather asked.
"I got a job offer in Branson, Missouri. We leave in three months." He says, looking at the floor of the kitchen sadly. "Look, I don't want to go either. I love it here. I love how close we are to family, and believe it or not I love my job. I know I should turn it down but the pay is so good--look, Hun!" He shows a paper to Lily, Kayla's mom.
"That's a lot of money! I'm going to Branson." Lily says, excitedly.
"Mom! How can you say that?" Heather said.
"We've got to, baby doll. We need the money. I'm sorry." Lily replied, looking sadly into Kayla's eyes.
Kayla couldn't move again. Lily helped her to her room, and sat her down on her bed. Kayla stayed there for the rest of the night. She passed on dinner. She didn't go to school the next day. Her world, her perfect world, was falling apart. It was bursting at the seams.
