A study published highlighted the dufferentials in suicide deaths in India. In 2016, the country accounted for 18percent of the global population but 37 percent of suicides among women and 24 percent among men . Suicide is the most common cause of death in the age group 15 to 39 years. This is a serious health challenge for both the sexes but women are significantly more vulnerable than men.
There are clear structural reasons for this such as domestic violence , marital rape, lack of economic independence etc. Some of them blame the high incidences of underage marriages. The study makes it clear that the highest proportion of suicide death among women in India involves married women. Patriarchy in instituitions of marriage and family  can be brutally traumatic. If you wonder how, then you're blessed.
But when a man's wife / daughter/ girlfriend/sister dies it would take a toll on his mental health as well. Gender equality would save lives and deliver greater hapiness for both the sexes.
Democratic families, improved education , job opportunities, greater safety in public places, more reliable redress from police machinery - what women want is no mystery. For India, and just any country to become a healthier one, it must raise the status of women and empower them.

Please come at me with statements like " sexism isnt big enough to cause deaths". Please, you and me have just been lucky enough to say that but not everyone is.
Please leave your comments , votes and suggestions if any. I love that stuff!
