I could hear them arguing in a tone they thought was hushed. Dad was in charge of this argument, and he was not happy.

"she is too young!" Dad whisper shouted.

"They were just sleeping!" Mum whisper shouted back, "and she's 16! That's not young!"

"She is too young" he repeated, his tone suggesting that this was the end of the argument.

"Don't be so naive." Mum replied, clearly not letting the argument rest. "She is a 16 year old girl, and they have known each other since they were born. He is good for Hayley, she is happy around him, even if you don't want to see it."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"You think she is still this little girl that only you can make happy! She is a big girl now, she can find her own happiness and make her own decisions"

"She never would have done anything like this before, they have gotten closer the past week. We never should have let them stay together, if they're going to share a bed with us down the hall, only God knows what they were doing when we were in another country!"

"Stop being so childish" mum said, and i could tell she rolled her eyes. "Leave them to it"

They must have walked away from each other because that was the last i heard from my position in Lucas' bed. I looked over to where he was laying and saw he was awake, so he heard all of that too.

"I'm sorry" i said, looking back at the ceiling.

"For what?" Lucas asked.

"For what you just heard, they don't exactly argue quietly"

"It's natural for a dad to not want to see his daughter in a boy's bed, even if they are just sleeping, and even if he has known me since i was born"

"Still, he's being ridiculous. Mums right, he needs to chill. I'm not a baby"

"You are to him" he said, and then swung his legs over the edge of the bed and sat up. I laid there, thinking about all that mum and dad just said. Lucas looked over at me and grabbed my hand in reassurance, he squeezed it then got up and walked into the bathroom across the hall. I took this as my opportunity to go and find my parents.

I walked downstairs and to my surprise they were both sitting in the kitchen - not talking, but still in the same room.

"I heard what you said" i said to dad. "We were just sleeping dad, literally sleeping. Sharing a bed. It's not that big of a deal, and to be honest I don't have to explain myself to you right now. Mums right, I'm 16. I'm big enough and ugly enough to make my own decisions, and what i do or don't do with Lucas or any boy has got nothing to do with you, I'm not a child anymore"

"Hayley-" dad started.

"Don't" i interrupted. "You both need to stop arguing about it. You're coming from different corners and its ridiculous, neither of you will win. It's not your business, so stay out of it" i said, and with that i walked away and up to my room.

A few moments later, i heard a soft knocking on my door. I looked up just as mums head appeared.

"Hey" she said, sitting on the edge of my bed next to me. "'You okay?"

"I hate talking to you both like that, i don't like it when we or you argue" i said, "but it's getting tedious now. Lucas and i were just sleeping, we are closer... we spent a whole week together and believe me that week had more happen in it than the entire last year of school. It was a hectic one, and he was there for me - him and Cameron. He has got to stop getting mad about it, what we do or don't do is up to us, not you"
