You've been working at CCPD for three weeks now, and you loved it. It was everything you anticipated, and you were glad that you accepted Joe's offer to work there.

Barry and you worked closely together, solving cases and mysteries. When you were mixing chemicals and needed a specific ingredient, he immediately knew what it was. When Barry was typing out a report, you'd always edit it and fill in any missing details before it was sent out. You two were so in sync.

And you've only been working there for a couple weeks.

Now you were at home alone, finishing up a movie by yourself. You were more of a home body, not really the type of person to go out and party too much.

It was a romantic comedy film. The man just confessed to the lady that he loved her while he was drenched in rain water. Somehow, you caught yourself thinking about Barry.

You immediately blushed.

Seconds later you get a call from - well, Barry.

"Hey (y/n), so sorry for calling so late," his voice hummed over the phone.

"Totally fine, don't worry- wait, are you still at CCPD?" your eyebrows knitted in worry.

"Yeah, I'm not much of a weekend guy," he chuckled over the phone. "I kind of need your help on something. If you can't come-"

"Be there in 15," you cut him off, jumping off the couch and getting dressed.

At CCPD

You arrived at the lab, letting yourself in. Barry was standing in front of the whiteboard filled with notes, his arms crossed and a worrisome look on his face.

As soon as he heard the door close, he turned and looked at you. His eyes immediately lit up, a smile on his face.

"What's up Allen?" You asked, hanging your stuff up and coming over to him.

"I'm digging into that murder case we're working on-"

"The one with the father and his family? We've already wrapped that up, like five days ago - remember?"

Barry chuckles and rubs his eyes, smiling.

"Right, right. I totally forgot. Sorry."

You come up closer to him, noticing the bags under his eyes.

"Someone hasn't been getting enough sleep lately," you comment.

"Yeah, becoming a real insomniac."

"It's the dreams, isn't it," you say, your voice lowering.

Barry lowers his hand and looks at you. Sadness fills his blue eyes.

"Yeah - I just keep thinking about her," he sighs.

"I'm really sorry about what happened to your mother Barry, and I know it hurts," you say. "I lost my father too. It's not easy to move on, in fact you may never move on - but you should know that she's always looking out for you. From up there."

You point upwards and he smiles. You end up smiling too.

"Come here," you say, opening your arms up. He comes in for a hug. You wrap your arms around his shoulders and he wraps his around your waist, resting his head on your shoulder.

He pulls away reluctantly.

"Thank you (y/n), I really needed that," he says.

"Anytime lab buddy," you grin, "maybe you should head home now and rest up."

"Will do, I'll just clean up here," he says. You start heading for the door, picking up your things. You open the door, but just before you leave-

"Hey (y/n)," Barry calls out.

"Yeah?"

"Thanks for coming by, it's nice to have someone to lean on," he smiles.

"Anytime Allen," you wink, heading out and back to your place.

Little did you know, as you were walking home, that Harrison Wells' particle accelerator would change the face of Central City.

Not only the face.

As you walked home, a lightning bolt hit your lab. You were totally unaware of this.

Totally unaware of the fact that awkward Barry Allen would transform into the fastest man alive - and the savior of Central City.
