One dark and stormy night I padded across the court yard of Castle Banther. I was totally unnoticed by the guards patrolling the junction of criss-crossing cat walks. I was an assassin, well kind of. You see at the moment I was a gun for hire. Anyways my name is Ace Miner A.K.A. The Ace of diamonds Why do people call me that? Because I am unlike any other assassin, I don’t wear a bullet proof vest; I wear a black cloak and a black belt. I don’t fight with a sniper rifle; I fight with a revolver and a knife. But most of all I do not shoot regular bullets, I shoot bullets of diamond. Any ways back to the story. This was one of my first missions; some dude hired me to take down some other dude named Sir Salem or something. It was a big undertaking, but I could not resist the amount of money he paid me. I peeked around the corner and surveyed my surroundings. I saw a draw bridge that was up against the castle, two guards carrying M-16s and there was a moat. Castle Banther was a strange case Back in the 1800s it was a war fort but was abandoned after the war of 1812. A couple hundred years later Sir Salem made it his mansion, it’s the same fort but he added a lot of things to it. For instance the cat walks above the courtyard. Anyways I had an idea. I pulled out my knife and dug it into the drawbridge then I lifted myself up and I kept doing that until I reached the top. When I was at the top I found the pulley system that made the draw bridge go up and down, sliced the rope and lunged onto a ledge. The draw bridge free fell until it squashed the two sentries below. Suddenly I realized I had just made my first mistake. The noise of the crash was deafening it echoed through the palace and all of the guards rushed to the scene. A voice came over a loud speaker it said “intruder alert all guards on full search.” The patrols split up into groups… they were forming a man hunt! I knew that I couldn’t risk going on the ground again so I decided to climb up higher to the roof of castle Banther. I leaped like an acrobat from turret to turret; I had memorized the map of the castle so it was not long before I found Sir Salem’s bed room. When I found Sir Salem He was in his pajamas pacing the room. My eyes widened, I knew this man you see I have never been one to sit in an office and do paper work. I’ve always been a criminal, in fact I knew this man from a ring of diamond thieves. (That’s where I got the diamonds for my bullets.) His name was Salem but I never had suspected this was my former partner in crime! I was so startled by seeing him that I slipped and toppled onto Salem’s balcony, my gun and knife skittered away. Salem wheeled around and swiftly picked up the magnum sitting on his desk, and pointed it at my chest. The worst part of this scenario is that my hood came off totally exposing my identity; I was finished. As it turned out Salem was just as astonished as I was. I probably should have made my move then, but I did not. Why? Because two reasons knowing Salem if I moved he would not be slow to pull the trigger, and second he would not miss. Oh yeah did I mentioned we loathed each other. Salem scowled “Ace” he growled. “Salem” I said through clenched teeth. I had to do something now, but what. Suddenly I had an idea it was risky but it might work. In one fluid movement I swatted a pack of 100 watt light bulbs off the Salem’s desk. They soared through air and obliterated as they hit Salem; he yelped in pain I took this moment to land a kick right to Salem’s gut. He staggered backwards, leaning against his bed side table. I bolted toward the balcony grabbing my weapons. On my way I spied something whizzing past me…it was a camera! To an assassin a camera is just as bad as a gun. Up ahead I saw a silhouette out on the roof. It was a guard. The sentry caught the camera and snapped a picture. I leaped past the guard pushing him off the roof. He tumbled downward and landed in the grave yard (I thought that was appropriate). I slid down the slippery shingles and landed in the courtyard. Four guards came at me. I sprinted away they sent volleys of bullets my way. I clambered up a seldom used stair case I lost the guard for the moment but they would catch up soon. I pulled out a slender put powerful wire from my cloak. It wasn’t anything special; I got it at a local hardware store. I secured it between two columns like a tripwire. The first guard fell for it and toppled over the line. He hit his head hard on the stone floor. Then I saw it. A vine was swaying in the wind. It was time to be Tarzan. I started to run but suddenly a fist came out of nowhere and lodged itself into my jaw. Something popped. The muzzle of a Glock came soaring at me but I was ready. I slid under the assault and hopped behind my assailant.” What the-?” He never finished because. I gave him a shove and he toppled over my tripwire. The guard started to get up but I stamped on his back just before I leapt off the tower. I caught the vine but the impact nearly pulled out my arm from the socket. Bullets soared around me but I evaporated into the misty woods.
I sprinted into the vast forest surrounding the castle. I slept in a tree that night; the thick canopy of leaves shielded me from the rain. My jaw and shoulder were out of place, and my mind whirled. The constant drizzle acted like a lullaby, and soon enough I was asleep.
