Pokémon: A Friend, Not a Trainer

I do not want to be a Trained Pokémon.

It's not because I've had a Trainer abandon me before, not have I ever seen another Pokémon be abandoned. None of them have ever done anything horrible to me before.

I just did not want to be stuck in a Pokéball all day, waiting for my Trainer to say I can come out only to be beaten senseless by another Pokémon. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

Not only that, but I was a Lillipup, so I was a normal type. That meant I didn't have any amazing fire moves to throw at my opponent, or have the ability to fly out of harms reach. I couldn't dive underwater to hide from attacks, and I couldn't throw rocks at them.

All I could do is tackle, leer, and, of course, dodge. Sure, it was a pretty good arsenal of moves, but it was nothing that would make me win a fight all the time. In fact, I think my best power is my intelligence that is shared in my family. At least I can use that everywhere, even if I'm out of energy.

I will do all in my power to make sure I stay a free Pokémon.

The day was like any other Friday. I liked to spend Fridays napping, kind of as a day off. The rest of the week, I was moving around and dodging trainers. But Fridays were sacred.

That day, I was curled up at the base of a tree. It was nice and shady, with a little breeze rushing by. I had been dozing off when something decided to disturb me.

And by something, I mean someone.

"Wow! A Lillipup!" A boy shouted loudly.

Opening my eyes, I examined him. He looked to be about twelve or thirteen, so he most likely wasn't a newbie at Pokémon Training. He had purple messy hair and bright green eyes. His clothes consisted of a neon green hoodie with yellow on the edges and purple shorts.

This kid was a walking circus.

Still, I shouldn't underestimate any trainers; that could lead to me being captured.

Slowly, I stood up and began backing away. A lot of the times I've done this, I've gotten away because the Trainer was too busy looking at their Pokédex to notice my escape. This boy didn't even pull one out.

"Hey, little guy. Where ya goin'" He asked softly, crouching down but not stepping closer. Strangely, he didn't even take out a Pokéball. He just looked at me with his arms in front of him, right where I could see.

I didn't make a sound, hoping that he would look away for just one second. Instead, he kept on staring with a smile on his face.

"My name's Hero. It's nice to meet you." He introduced himself, not making a move toward me. "I'm not a Pokémon Trainer, but I've always liked Pokémon. I would have become one if it wasn't for all the fighting. I'm kind of a pacifist." He rubbed the back of his head, grinning sheepishly.

Unconsciously, I had sat down, watching him as well. I don't know what it was, but there was something about his voice that made me feel calm. Besides, if he wasn't a Trainer, than that meant he won't be able to catch me, right?

"That's why I was out here today. I wanted to see all of the different Pokémon that lived in this area before I moved on. I'm a bit of a traveler you might say." As he spoke, he kept on smiling, staying still as I watched him.

After a few minutes, he stood, making me bolt upwards and jump a bit back. He gave a chuckle at my reaction, shoving his hands into his pockets.

"I gotta go now, but I'll be in the area for a few days. If you want, I can come back tomorrow and we can see each other again. See ya little guy!" And, with that, he left.
