Ah, Halloween. Fairy Tail's favorite holiday. What was there not to love about the unlimited candy, beer, and general goofing off?
Natsu and Happy were always the most energetic towards the set up; they even brought in a giant pumpkin one time that they got from who knows where. Of course, that year wasn't an exception.
"What should we do for trick-or-treaters?" Happy chirped happily, flying around Natsu's head.
"I know! How 'bout we get Lucy to summon Virgo, and then dig a giant tunnel for them to walk through! Then, while they're there, we can use skeletons and stuff like that to scare them!" Roaring excitedly, Natsu fist pumped the air in excitement.
As she walked past, Lucy mumbled out a small "leave me out of this." She knew they would probably end up involving her anyways, but that didn't mean she would approve of their stupid idea.
Before they could continue further, Mirajane stepped in, hands planted on her hips. "Sorry guys, but you're on candy duty this year. Gajeel got the decorations." She informed them solemnly.
"WHAT?!?!" Natsu screamed, fire streaming from his mouth. Angrily, he started to storm over to Gajeel when Happy stopped him, flying into his chest.
"Wait, Natsu! That means more candy for us!" Happy consoled the boy, tail wriggling back and forth through the air.
The dragon boy paused, head cocked to the side as he thought about that idea. Once a minute had passed, he nodded his head vigorously.
"Yeah! And we can put weird stuff in any that we give to Gajeel or Gray!" Bouncing back quickly, Natsu once again started to prattle on about his plans for the candy.
Claiming a corner for themselves, Happy and Natsu conspired on what to hand out. Natsu wanted to do something that he could get a lot of or something that not many children would want so there would be some left over for them, but Happy had other ideas.
"Let's do something really yummy! Then, all the kids will think that Fairy Tail is the greatest and be our fans! If they're our fans, then we can get more members! The more members we have, then the stronger guild we are! And if we get super-duper strong, then all the other guilds will see our awesomeness!" The blue cat giggled, eyes wide with his elation.
"Oh, yeah!" Natsu agreed, expression mirroring Happy's. "Then we need the coolest candy in the world!"
The two began to think, suggesting and rejecting ideas at a steady pace. All of it was either too healthy, too chewy, too crunchy, not sugary enough, or lacking some other unspoken requirement. Things were just beginning to look impossible when Happy suddenly suggested the perfect food.
"Fish!" He yelped, flowers dancing around his face from his overflow of joy.
"Fish?" Scratching his head, Natsu carefully thought about that idea.
"Yeah! Everyone likes fish!" To prove his point, Happy started drooling, unable to stand the mere mention of his favorite vice.
"Okay, fish it is!" Everyone did like fish after all, and they weren't too hard to catch. With that as their treat, what could go wrong?
Of course, things did not go as planned.
The first set of children, a ghost, wizard and cat, were impressed with the decorations. There was a metal forest set up in front of the guild, filled with creatures and such made of metal as well. The whole thing was suitably scary, without making the younger children cry. In all, things seemed better than last year, when one kid had his clothes burnt off of him.
Once they exited, they were in front of a table that was manned by a blue cat. That in itself was a novelty which the children couldn't resist cooing over. When the thing presented them with a minnow for each of them, they laughed it off, thinking it was part of it's act.
The three realized that it was serious when it chirped 'have a good night!', waving them over to the exit.
Angrily, they pelted the blonde girl standing at the entrance with their fish, stomping off to a new house. Every kid passing through had much the same reaction, and some went even as far as to smear the fish onto the guild itself.
By the end of the night, Happy had given out all the fish while Lucy, who was the blonde girl at the exit, was buried under a pile of smelly fish.
Needless to say, Natsu and Happy were never given the candy job again.
Just a little something for Halloween~! ^_^
