1970 Washington DC

I thought I saw her today, my mother. I was feeding on some homeless guy when she appeared at the end of the alleyway. I was finishing up with the man when she spoke, “This isn’t you my girl” and then her appearance faded into a smoke as another person’s image appeared. They looked a lot like me, except they were covered in blood. It took me a long time to realise that the person I was seeing was me and I looked like a monster. I still to this day don’t understand whether it was my mother who actually spoke to me or whether it was the humanity inside myself that wanted its life back but hearing those words were finally what switched me back on, I didn’t want to be this person I want to be me. Nothing made sense any more I don’t know who I am. I ran down the alley way back to the five star hotel I was staying at. That night I ran myself a bath and sat there all night thinking. The monster was only powerful when hunting, my humanity was now left to roam whilst the monster was slept. I often use to hold my breath under the water for hours on end just to prove to myself that I wasn’t normal, that I was dead. I got out of the bath and wrap my towel around me. I retire to my bed and try to sleep but my mind would not shut off. It has been a hundred and one years since I was turned, I have killed over fifty thousand people, the homeless, men, even women, I cannot die but neither can I live, all I have to do is find another life support, a different species of animal to feed on, maybe then I can redeem myself, if I have not already been condemned.

2010 London

I tried to stop, I tried to block out the monster within me but it would never work. I had not taken a human life for years but he made me snap. He was a sleazy seedy man who would not take no as an answer. I had gone out that night to a club and I got really dizzy, animal lifesupport leaves you weaker than human blood, so I stepped outside for a bit. He came out and tried to make convosation, but I blew him off. He forced himself upon me and before I knew it, it was too late. I grabbed him by the neck and pushed him down the alley way. The monster that had been trapped within a cage had just been unleashed and she was angry. I severed his vocal cords so he couldn’t scream and them I bit down on his neck. The bitter sweet red gooiness slid down my throat and extinguished the fire that was burning in my throat. I bit down hard, feeling him kicking beneath me until he suddenly went limb.

I stood up to see what I had done, how low I had stooped. I had little time to observe the life in which I had taken as I hear a noise behind me. I cannot leave any witnesses. I sprint towards her and grab her but she pushes my hand away. She’s impossibly strong, a little too strong; before I knew it she had me in a head lock. “Your excessive feeding has put all of us in jeopardy, you have come so close to exposing us you idiot.” She yelled at me

“Who are you, what are you?”

“I am simply what you are, a vampire?” she said in a questioning tone.

“There are no others, I am the only vampire, I searched decades for others but I am…..”

I smelt them before I heard them, two humans, a man and a women about to turn into the alleyway

“We need to leave Anna, follow me and I can help you get control of your hunger, stay and you have just signed your own death sentence.” She ran and jumped up onto the roof and before I could think about what I was doing I ran after her.

We ran for hours without a single break,, vampires never run out of breath as we dont require oxygen. I was going to give up, just stop and run back, i mean for all i know i could be running into my own death sentence. What do you mean, you're already dead, The irony seeping out of my subconscious commented. We came to an abrupt halt."Before you enter the grounds you must understand this, we do not feed on any other humans than the designated donors, we live a peaceful life, your actions tonight will not be tolerated here in future reference. Do you agree?"

What was i suppose to say? No i don't agree? I nod in agreement and that was all she needed. She pushed the front doors open to reveal a type of academy with children as young as 13 to adults that looked in their 20's. She starts walking through the hallway of mansion and never looked back to see if i was following even though she did not need to, i had no where else to go. The building was amazing so bright and full of life even though most of the people in it were dead, like me. There were beautiful paintings and statues everywhere. I caught the eye of a boy, a cute boy at it. He looked up from his conversation with his friends and saw me walk past, i almost thought he had held his breath the entire time i past. I turn away from his gaze and smile as we reach the doors of the headmaster, as indicated on the name plate that had no name. She knocked on the big brown wooded doors. "Come in Elizabeth." Good to know "she" now has a name.

"Miss Grey, as you requested Mame."

"Thank you Elizabeth you may return to class, but for future refernce, if you insist on making a mockery of yourself in class then your punishment will be alot graver than being my assistant for the day. You are dismissed." Elizabeth couldnt of gotten out of that room any faster

"Well, Miss Grey. I have been watching you for a while now. Please have a seat."

I sit immediately, knowing that this is the first time that ive been scared of someone other than myself.

"Do you know why you are here Miss Grey?"

"No clue." I say sarcastically

"Point one that you would do well to learn Miss Grey, sarcasm won't be tolerated around here, either will your extravagant hunting, which in answer to my question is why you are here. Didn't your maker teacher you respect?"

"My maker? If by maker you mean the person or thing that turned me than no they didn't, they didnt stick around after they forced me to kill my mother, they didn't stick around to watch the monster ive turned into, They bit me and left. So no they didn't teach me respect and whilst on the subject i would just like to add that up until today i thought i was the only one, so im sorry that my sarcastic tone is not up to your proper standards." I was getting hysterical, i needed to calm myself down. The headmasters face softened a bit.

"Anna i can help you, i can help you become the girl you use to be, but i need you to trust me, i need you to want to change, this road is not going to be easy but you need to trust me."

"Your a stranger, i dont know you and yet you expect me to trust you? why should i?"

"You should trust me because im the only alie you have on your side."

She was right, i knew she was.

"Fine." i agreed
