My alarm clock rang at 6:45 in the morning, damn these human schools. I got up and put on my skinny jeans, my grey hoodie over my black singlet, my blackflat shoes and tied my black long hair that normally comes down to my hips in a high ponytail. I look at myself in the mirror and am shocked at how white i had gotten. Thank god today is feeding day. I look over to see a note from Jamie saying she had gone down stairs to see her boyfriend and to come down when im ready. I grab my books for my period one class and head down stairs. At the end of the stairway i find Riley just standing there waiting for someone. "Hey, i was wondering if you wanted to walk to class together, we both have history, so yer, no obligation or anything, just thought id be nice and offer." He seamed nervous, which was a little relieving, it brought a smile to my lips.
"Yea umm sure, but i have to tell Jamie that ill meet her after class, shes just down the hall, is that ok?"
"Yer, by all means, so where did you transfer in from?"
Shit! i hadnt been told a cover story.
"I was homeschooled by my mother, up until her death." as sad as it was to say, it was all true, i just failed to mention that that was a century and a bit ago.
"Oh im sorry to hear about that, so your father sent you here?"
"Ahhh no my father left when i was just a child, he was an alcoholic and was quite abusive so my mother kicked him out." There was an awkward silence forming but luckily we reached Jamie in time.
"Hey Ana, i was just about to come see if i needed to wake you, you were out like a light last nigh.." she stopped speaking after her eyes found Riley's. I looked over the group and they all had grins on their face, all but one. Steph was eyeing me off, she obviously had a problem with me.
"Sorry Jamie, just came to let you know Riley's going to walk me to class so i'll meet you back at our room later. Thanks." I started to walk away knowing that Jamie was going to say something about Riley.
"So is our teacher nice?"
"Well it depends are you good with history?"
"Extremely." Ironically
"Then yes she will be nice, lets go."
He rested his hands to the side so everytime we walked our hands would touch and every time electricity would spark up my hand.
What is this feeling? Is this normal?
We walked into class and all thoughts of feeling left as i tuned into my teacher.
I was writing notes out of the book when i hear a subtle cough and a note landed on my desk.
'Have lunch with me xx Riley'
I look at him and nod my head, i feel really happy and excited, i havent felt this way before, even when i was sixteen and the most beautiful younng lady of town. Second and third period flew by and at the end of fourth he was waiting for me outside my class. I blushed and walked out.
"Follow me, though you have to be quiet." he smiled and grabbed my hand and lead me off to a desserted area on the school oval.
"Suprisingly i wasn't always popular. back in year 7 i was hated by everyone, i was the fat chubby kid that was an easy target. I use to come here every lunch time, nobody could find me and i liked it that way. Your the only one other than me who knows about this place." Wow, i never pictured his life like that, i always figured he had it easy.
"I haven't seen my father in years, i was eight when he got drunk. I heard him screaming at my mother. I was just a little girl and i had seen how bad daddy could get, the bruises, everything, i couldn't face him. The screaming stoped, i couldn't hear my mother which was always a bad sign. I was so scared, i hid behind my bed but it wasn't good enough, he found me." i shudder at the memory. "The pain lasted weeks, i had a few cracked ribs a black eye severe bruising. The next day when mother came into my room she saw the aftermath. Whilst father was at work she changed the locks and put his stuff outside. I haven't seen him since." Why was i telling him this, i didn't know him, i hadnt told anyone, but it felt right telling him.
"And you don't know where he is?"
"No, i didnt want to. especially after my mothers passing. I was an orphan. I lived on the streets for a while, up until a couple of days ago, when the headmaster sent for me. Aparently my father didn't want anything to do with me but still keeps tracks of where i am." Lie number 1
"How are you so strong Ana? Your beautiful, smart and incredibily inspiring, i could not even begin to imagine the bad events that have been inflicted on you. Your so beautiful."
I felt really uncomfortable, it was obvious i was into Riley and he into me, but i couldn't possibly go there, could i? He was human and i was definatly not. My cravings were under control but would they stay that way? How could i be sure? "So whats up with Steph, i dont think she likes me, she was greasing me off this morning." Time to sus out the social groups.
"Ahh, long story short Steph and i dated, it wasn't working out, she was too artificial. It was a few months ago but shes still attached more so to the idea of us than to me. She knows i am interested in you and i guess she's turned hostile towards you." I knew he fancied me but to have it confirmed was suprisingly heart warming. I was looking down towards the green grass and daisies when he cupped my chin and brought my face to meet me, and then he kissed me. At first it was a simple romantic kiss, but then it turned into something more. I felt the familiar pain at the back of my throat. The bell rang signifing the end of lunch, saved by the bell.
