"First" Day

The next morning I awake to a guard who's name I think is Tina (yes we have girl guards. Mostly for dealing with girls stuff.. like buying me girl stuff) shaking my shoulders, telling me to wake up.

"Come on, you have school. You can make new friends." she says, pulling me out of bed.

"You sound like my mom when I was 5." I yawn, stretching like a bear.

"I have kids." She laughs. I grin and shoo her away, telling her I'll be out in a minute.

I throw on white t-shirt that has a picture of a unicorn saying "I don't believe in humans."

I pull on some denim cut off shorts that end at a little less than half my thigh. It's 100 degrees today!! I'm going to burn to death. (just kidding)

I pin the hair that would be my bangs back, making a little poof/bump thing. I let the rest of my orange/red curly hair just do whatever after I brushed it. I grab a pair of random socks and slip them on. I walk out of the room, hopping on one foot while trying to put on my right converse shoe.

I pet Philip and quickly pour myself some cereal. At the door I see a black backpack and a green one. They were packed. I dreaded having to carry that around untill I finally got my locker. I see my guards have already made their own breakfast and are hanging out. I say guards as if there's a lot of them. There are only 6 of them but they rotate every like 5-6 hours and I get new ones. Or at least a different group.

-later-

I drive up to the school in a rental, which to Austin's surprise, had the wheel on the left side. A few guards had taken under cover jobs as janitors or cooks. I hope we don't have to use them though.

Austin and I hop out of the car and I can already tell what kind of school this is. Although this is a pretty big school, I could tell that everybody knew everybody. I could tell this easily as I saw the amount of eyes on us vs. other people with good cars.

I waved awkwardly while Austin seemed to have shrunk into his shell. I reach out and grab his hand, seeming to calm him a little. I lead him towards the front door, hand in hand.

I go up to the first girl I see once I walk in and ask,

"Hey.. we're new.. ok, I'm going to be blunt here, where the heck is the main office?"

She looks taken aback by me, like I was a bacteria. She looks me up and down and her mouth twitches. She smirks at Austin and winks. He grins at her. I sling an arm around Austin casually, showing her that he was taken.

Her smirk disappears and she jabs a thumb behind her to a staircase.

"Up the stairs to your left."

I don't say a thank you but I give her a grateful nod. Austin smirks at me when she leaves and we're heading up the stairs.

"What's the grin for?"I ask him.

"You were totally jealous." he grins.

"I'm not saying I wasn't." I scowl. He puts an arm around my shoulder and laughs as we go into the office.

"She's not my type." he grins.

"Names." a old lady behind the desk says blankly, once she sees us.

"Oh. I'm Amber Rickly and this is Logan Hellenberg. We're new." I say, letting go of Austin. Or should I say Logan.

"Of course you are." she mumbles, searching through her computer. "I'll print out your schedules. I'll assign somebody to help you around the school." she says louder.

She clicks a button and I hear the ancient printer next to her growl and then make a high pitched beeping noise. Two papers came out with what has to be our schedules.
