My eighteenth birthday was, so far, the best day of my life. Mom took me out to get my nails done downtown, and Dad allowed Sam and I to choose our very first car. It was an awesome old muscle car, a bit of a fixer-upper but the engine inside it was amazing! Pretty much out of this world.

Not only did it produce lots of good memories to save until I grew old, but it also marked the day I was able to see my guardian angel. Everyone had one; Sam had first met his a week after his eighteen birthday. Apparently, 'Orion' was particularly kind and helpful in terms of making moral decisions.

We had yet to meet him. He came to Sam one afternoon as he was begging for help with a certain girl. Mikaela. Couldn't blame him, she was gorgeous. But then when he met Orion, Mikaela was forgotten. Orion managed to get Sam back on track with his priorities, like schoolwork and improving his life.

I was so damn excited to meet mine. Mom and Dad had both given me advice on how to act since it would be my first meeting with them, but also their first meeting with me. Our guardian angels knew nothing of us until they actually met us, so I could only hope mine was friendly at the least. Mom and Dad's guardian angels were part of the family, visiting every so often to check on them. Must be nice.

The transition from high school to college was a little stressful, especially since I didn't have my own guardian angel to help me out with keeping calm or choosing papers that would go towards a future career. But I'd been in college for barely three weeks now, enjoying my lectures and making new friends. I still looked out for my guardian angel though. It was coming up to the six month anniversary since my birthday, and there was still no sign of them.

Did I even have one? There were records dating back centuries of people reaching eighteen and never meeting their guardian angel. I guess I could only pray I didn't end up being one of those people.

The day started out like any other. I was woken up at seven in the morning by my phone's alarm, my Tuesday morning lecture beginning in an hour. That gave me plenty of time to use the communal bathroom and take a shower, stopping by the cafeteria for a quick breakfast once I'd gotten dressed.

My morning lecture was a practical session, meaning I was almost dead by the time we finished. And, unfortunately for me, James was waiting outside the lecture hall.

Now, James wasn't half-bad. He was a decent guy; studying sport science and had a future in football. However, he was stubborn and wouldn't take no for an answer since he'd apparently had girls throwing themselves at him all throughout high school. Now I had to beat him off with a stick, and it was getting tedious.

"Rose! Hey," James jogged to catch up with me as I hurried out of the lecture hall, muscles aching from the activities we'd had to do during the practical. I glanced at the clearly sweaty football player in his uniform, offering him a polite smile. "Hi, James."

He grins at me, beaming like a child being given candy. It was so weird. Why did he have this hyper-fixation with me when there were girls all over campus that actually wanted him? I was too busy with assessments and pining after the thought of my guardian angel to even bother going on a date with him.
