It was two weeks before the UA entrance exams. Izuku was fortunate enough to have lied his way out of going to a mental hospital so he was able to study. Though, he was beginning to have second thoughts about applying. He was quirkless and his body was extremely fragile from the recent damage done. Even with the pressure of feeling like the world is against him being mostly relieved by his first real best friend, his depression still managed to destroy him. He'd been cutting himself with anything he could since he was released from the hospital. Not once had he worn short sleeves, dispite the weather getting warmer.
Katsuki recognized his best friend's pain just as much as Izuku had his. "Oi, Deku, tell me what's wrong dammit!" Katsuki said one day while walking home after having enough of Izuku's moping around. Yeah, the two were as close as people can get, but Izuku couldn't bring himself to tell the other boy what was going on. He looked away, pretending to not have heard him despite being practically screamed at. Katsuki huffed, grabbing the smaller boy's arm, "Answer me, dammit!" He barked. Izuku winced, he couldn't raise his gaze from the ground. Words wouldn't form no matter how badly he wanted to speak. Above everything else he was absolutely terrified Katsuki would roll up his sleeve, exposing the mess underneath.
Katsuki took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. He dropped his gaze to his hand that was tightly holding onto Izuku's wrist. It made Katsuki's heart ache to see him in so much pain. He could feel the flowers filling his lungs again. His eyes closed and he loosened his grip, gliding his hand down to hold Izuku's. "Come to my house today." He mumbled, dragging Izuku behind him as he practically ran through the streets of their little city.
"Sit in here for a minute. I'll be right back." Katsuki said after sitting Izuku on his bed. The door clicked shut and Izuku looked down at his hand that the fiery boy had held. His face began to heat up. He wanted to take off the sweater he was wearing or roll up his sleeves so badly, but he couldn't, not even for a minute. The sight of the mess he's made only tempted him to make more and deeper cuts.
The sound of Katsuki's coughing echoed through the house. Izuku knew everything. He knew about the petals, the flowers, the blood, that it was his fault— but he didn't know what to do. He was still unsure about how he felt towards Katsuki. Sure, he could just say that he loves him too but it wouldn't feel right. He couldn't say that without being certain about his feelings. It would end up with someone getting hurt worse.
