Ashanti: A Tale of Dark Love

When I heard the front door slam, I dropped my pencil on the table. I didn't want to make Bianca mad, but she just doesn't understand. I have been wanting to tell her that I am a vampire since we met, and she became my best friend.

She has been the only human that I have ever associated with, well at least the ones I didn't kill.

3 years ago:

I just finished eating a guy who thought that he was going to rape me when I saw a girl sitting in the park crying.

Usually I don't care about humans but for some reason I felt the need to see what was wrong with her. I climbed up the tree and listened to her crying into the phone.

"I can't believe that he cheated on me and kicked me out of our home. The home that I take care of. I haven't even looked at another man nor have I wanted to, and he goes out and cheats on me and get her pregnant.

I left my family and they disowned me because I choice to live life the way I wanted to and now this is the thanks I get. I have nowhere to go." She cried on the phone.

Lucky for vampires we have a great hearing. We can hear from over a hundred feet away. I heard the chick on the other end, and I wanted to rip her throat out.

"Well I'm sorry hun you are going through that, but I can't let you stay here with me. My man lives here, and I can't have any single woman around." The bitch on the phone said.

This is one reason why I hated humans. They were so selfish. Vampire women stick together and will eat the man that hurts us.

I felt that pain she was feeling. I left my family because I wanted to follow my own rules. I missed them, but I couldn't let anyone tell me what to do and who to marry.

"Are you serious? When your dude threw you out of your house after beating your ass, I let you stay with us without a second thought." She said.

"Yea and I appreciate that, but I can't. Sorry." And then she hung up.

I heard enough and even though I knew I should keep walking I decided to help her out.

I jumped down out the tree and started walking like I was taking a stroll in the park. I stopped and looked at her.

"Are you alright?" I know dumb question but what else was I supposed to say.

She jumped and held her chest.

"Shit, you scared me."

"I'm sorry about that. Are you alright?"

"No, my boyfriend just dumped me and now I am homeless." She started crying harder.

I took a deep breath and then the words finally came out.

"I know you don't know me, but I was actually looking for a roommate to share my house with. I'm not sure what you can afford but for now why don't you come and let's talk. There is a bar around the corner. By the way my name is Ashanti."

She looked at me and her eyes were so red.

"Bianca." She said and gave me a small smile.

We walked over to the bar and took shots and she told me all about her no-good ex. I wanted to rip his head off, but I couldn't just go around killing people because they piss me off. Maybe I could just this once.

After a few drinks I took her back to my house showed her around and we became roommates. Once she found out I did clothes she came up with the idea of opening a store.

That was three years ago, and I can admit she is my best friend. She reminds me so much of my little sister. I need to tell her my truth, but I am afraid that she won't be able to handle it.

I couldn't concentrate on my sketches, so I decided to end the night early and go and talk to Bianca. I wasn't and couldn't lose my friendship with her. It was only ten, so I decided to go home and talk to her.

I turned off the lights and closed up the shop I heard footsteps behind me. After that guy Mike and his scary ass friend tried to rob me, I was on edge. When I felt my fangs break, I was ready for war. I was going to turn around when I heard the last voice I expected to hear.

"Hi Ashanti."

I popped my fangs back in and turned around to see Marcus standing behind me. I had to play the human role, so I jumped like he scared me.

"Oh, hi Marcus. You scared the hell out of me." I grabbed my chest for the full effect.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. I just wanted to come and talk to you." He said.

I could tell he was nervous. I can admit I was nervous too. I was nervous that he was going to ask me out. I never been out with a human before and besides Bianca I never dealt with humans.

"What are you doing here? Did you forget something in the store?" I asked.

{Ask her out dummy.} I heard his thoughts.

"No, I was just wondering if you wanted to go with me and get a drink? I see that you are leaving."

{Please say yes, please say yes.} He was thinking.

I felt my stomach rumble and I knew I needed to feed. I didn't eat before I came so I needed to get home and fast.

"I can't tonight." I said. The wind was blowing, and I could smell blood near. I needed to leave now before this got ugly.

{I knew I should have stayed at home. She wouldn't want to go out with a guy like me. Maybe she likes thugs.} He thought.

I felt bad and I felt my fangs trying to come out. I didn't want to hurt him, so I had to find a way to get him away from me. I was hungry, and the thirst was starting to get to me.

"I can't tonight. I have a headache and I need to lay down. We can go out another night if you like." I said hoping he would say OK and leave.

"Cool. Can I call you?" He asked.

"Yes" When he pulled out his cell, I quickly gave him my number.

"Do you need a ride? You are looking kind of pale." He said.

"No" I shouted. I felt bad when he gave me a surprise look.

"No, I mean. My car is right in the back. I'll be fine." I said and tried to walk off. Truth was I can run so fast I can be home in a flash.

"You sure?"

"Yes, I have to go. Talk to you soon." I said and tried to walk away without showing him my flash.

Once I got around the corner, I felt my fangs come out. I heard a stray dog near the trash, and I flashed over and bit into it. The blood made me feel good and when I felt the heart beat stop, I stopped drinking.

I was so into my thirst, I didn't hear the footsteps behind me, but the voice stopped me in my tracks.

"What in the fuck? Ashanti?" I turned to see Bianca standing there frozen with fear.
