I smile slightly as I feel the water clash against my legs; feeling the sand move with the water, going in between my toes. The smell of wood burning and the slight crackle accompanied by the hollering and chuckles of my family, remind me of the campfire that is still going on behind me.
Feeling a slight shift in the breeze, I know that I am no longer alone.
"Hey Mads, are you okay over here?"
"Yeah, this is just what I needed," I say as I turn to Hunter, my older brother by four minutes and eleven seconds.
He says calmly, "We'll always be here for you, you know that right? We'll find the b*stard who did this to you."
I feel the tears coming to my eyes, appreciating the fact that I have a supporting family. The fact that they have been there for me for as long as I can remember gives me a warm feeling that spreads throughout my body.
Sensing the wave of emotions that I am experiencing right now, Hunter moves to wrap me in one of his bear hugs. I'm attacked with the smell of our laundry detergent, with a hint of his cologne when I hug him back , and it comforts me right away.
"Don't cry Mads, it hurts me to see you cry"
"Why did this happen to me Hunter? What did I ever do to deserve this? I hate that I'll never get to see you dancing in your room when you think that no one is looking. I hate that I'll never see dad in the morning, digging into his breakfast and looking at the stock market while mom makes his coffee," I sob into his shoulder, " Even worse, I'll never get to watch Bo grow up, and watch him get out and experience things head on."
I lean in and rest my head onto his chest.
"I won't say that everything is going to be okay, because I don't actually know that. I won't say that I understand because I don't. What I can say is that I am here for you whenever you need me. Whenever something happens, Ill describe each moment to you in full detail, even if it annoys you. Heck, I'll even use descriptive words like coral, and ivory when describing moms clothing. I'll drive you wherever you want, just because I can. All you have to do is ask Mads, because I will always be here for you."
After hearing him say that, I feel everything just come pouring out, making me sob into his shoulder again.
"Thank you Hunter," I say in between sobs.
"Twins got to stick together right?" he mumbles.
After pulling myself together, I leave Hunters embrace and take a step back. I smile up at him, remembering the look of his cerulean eyes that glistened whenever he felt a bit of joy, "Lets go join the rest of our family!"
"Of course Mads, Mom was getting a bit worried earlier. Oh shoot!" Hunter says as he flails around, "I was supposed to go back and tell mom how you're doing"
"I guess we better hurry then huh?"
"Well if I don't want my white clothes to turn pink, then yes!" he exclaims.
The sight of Hunter running into the kitchen with his pink boxers, while crying to our mom flashes through my mind. I giggle before letting my twin brother lead me back to join the circle around the campfire.
Maybe everything won't be so bad here.
