"I'm your fiancé now. We are getting engaged."

Fiance. Engaged. Rey's mouth gaped open as the words slowly seeped into her frazzled mind, and the harsh realization set in like a knife twisting its way into her heart.

No.

NO!

"I'm not marrying you!" Rey screamed furiously, shoving Cassio's hard chest away from her. He staggered backwards, Rey's action catching him off-guard, and the smug smirk on his face dropped immediately, an angry frown replacing its place.

"The feeling's mutual, cara," he sneered bitterly, and to Rey's relief, he didn't approach nearer to her again. "I thought I had freed myself from that puttana of a Ruby, only to find myself with another one. I am definitely cursed."

"If you don't want to marry me, then tell your parents! Talk to your father! Your mother!"

"You really are stupid if you think it's that easy." Cassio scoffed, then muttered under his breath with a roll of his amber eyes. "Prima una puttana, ora un'idiota. Grande."

"You can insult me as you like, but unlike you, I'm going to try to get out of this mess and not hide like some coward behind curse words." Cassio's face darkened dangerously, and Rey knew she had hit a spot. Especially with the way his sharp jaw clenched with suppressed anger, she had expected him to explode and spit out more rude insults, but he only flashed her a lazy smile despite the seething rage still burning in his intense amber gaze.

"Good luck with that. Even someone like your sister didn't succeed in trying to get out of this engagement, I want to see you try, Remy Ruby. Prove to me that you aren't as weak and pathetic as I think you are."

Blush crept up her cheeks as they burned with both anger and shame at his words. No one had ever told it to her face before, but she knew she had always been labelled weak compared to her strong sister. Chevelle was successful, Chevelle was powerful, Chevelle was beautiful. And now, as Cassio exploited her worst insecurities and hurled them straight into her face, she couldn't help but do feel weak and pathetic.

The weight of Cassio's eyes were heavy as he gauged her reaction, and Rey quickly fumbled to keep her mask up, to pretend his words had not affected her at all. But she realized she was a tad bit too late as the corner of his lips curled up slightly with a knowing smile. He had seen her weakness, her insecurities.

Clenching her fists tightly at her side, Rey gritted out, "I'll prove you wrong, Cassio Edmondi. I'll get out of this stupid arrangement. You'll see."

"Sure, cara. Sure." He flashed her a mocking grin, revealing a perfect set of pearly white teeth. "I want to see you try."

Rey desperately wanted to knock off those perfect teeth with her punches, and her hands itched with the desire to carry out her thoughts. But she knew violence wasn't going to solve anything, so there was nothing she could do except shoot him her dirtiest glare before stalking out of the bathroom. She could hear Cassio's faint chuckles traveling down the corridor, and the sound of his light footsteps leisurely following her angry long strides.
