Characterization- the act of making characters seem realistic enough to be in real life.
Character development- making characters actually affected by events and maturing their personalities.
Characterization tips-
To make characters seem real, they have to have good and bad traits. They need more than a name, looks, and a backstory.
You need to get to their personal portfolio.
There are so many questions that can help you make your character real. Little bits of information about their everyday lives.

It really helps make characters realistic, and have depth.
After finishing this chapter, answer all of those questions of you want a good character.
Or have a boring, basic one. Your choice.
Character development-
Without having character development, your story could be like this:
Sorry if offensive9/11 has no affect on people whatsoever and they continued with their everyday lives, thinking it's fine.
Or
The Holocaust did not scare millions of Jews and they did not live in fear. They acted like it was a normal thing afterwards.No.
9/11 and the Holocaust had major effects on people.
And big events should have effects on your characters, too.
An excellent example is:
Ravenpaw in the Warriors series by Erin Hunter was even more jumpy and cautious than before after witnessing Tigerclaw murder Redtail or Oakheart (I forget)People don't just go like, "I just saw somebody murdered, but I'm fine. It's all good".
People aren't like that.
Think, how would I be affected if I saw/experienced [your event here]?
