I forced a smile onto my face as I climbed the front steps, pushing open the double doors into the school. I had to be strong, I couldn't let them get to me.

Some of the conversations died when I walked in. Pockets of students rudely whispered about me, eyeing me with disgust, snickering behind their hands.

How did it end up like this?

I found my friends in a circle at the end of the hall, their eyes focused on something on their phones. I came to a stop beside Reem, a friend of mine. Or so I thought. The faint conversation in the circle stopped, their attention shifting to me instead of their phones. I smiled bravely, looking around as though nothing happened yesterday. "What's up?" I ask, looking towards each girl.

They all kept quite, an awkward look painted on their face. Erin was the first one to break the silence. "What are you doing here?" she asked. That wasn't what I was expecting. A small, airy, chuckle escaped my lips, my brows furrowing slightly.

"What do you mean? I'm your friend," she looked at me with mock sympathy, and shook her head.

"No," she enunciated the word, as if speaking to a younger child who didn't understand the words. "You're not our friend anymore. Your social status dropped to the ground." I felt my eyes stinging as I looked at the girls. I could not believe this.

"Reem? Tania? Pink?" all the girls everted their eyes away from me. None of them had the nerve to look at me. Cowards. Bitches. "So that's it? Years of friendship down the drain? What even happened?" I asked, trying to catch all their eyes. But Erin was the only one who's talking, who had the nerve to talk to me, to smirk a smug smirk.

Of course. She was always jealous, and this was the perfect opportunity to get rid of me. And I thought she was my best friend.

Clearly I was mistaken.

"You've been neglecting your school council responsibilities, you missed the soccer tryouts, your grades are dropping, and you're a mess," she looked me up and down to emphasize her point. "You're just not good material to be this school's popular girl anymore. I'll have to take that place," she tried to look sheepish, but an evil grin threatened to overtake her face. She bit her lip to not appear too smug.

"Fine, I hope you rot in fucking hell," I snapped, turning around and speed-walking to my locker.

Fuck them, who needs them?

I do, because now I'm completely lonely.

Tough times for Kelly, unfortunately. Here's a longer chapter that gives you a look into her life!

I was going to take time off after this story but I got an idea a couple days ago and I'm almost done writing it so I guess no break. I don't want to say much about it yet but it's also in a unique format and it'll be pretty short. I might post it alongside another story but I'm not sure yet. More details coming soon!

See you next chapter,
Sage
