Shayne:
I looked at my phone one more time before putting it back in my pocket. I got Olivia's message earlier but I didn't feel like responding. How do you respond to someone who's spreading rumors about you? I'm kinda disappointed, I thought she was a nice girl but I guess not.
"Hey" Damien said.
Damien was holding my notebook in his left hand and my binder in his right.
"Don't forget your stuff dude" He said.
"Thanks, I guess I've been sidetracked today" I said.
"I could already tell, best friend telepathy" He joked.
"I don't think that works like that" I said.
"Trust me, I can even tell what you're thinking about right now" Damien said.
"Oh yeah, what?" I challenged.
"Hmmmm... You're thinking about how good of a friend I am" He said.
"Close but I actually was thinking about getting a soda" I said.
Damien shrugged and handed me my stuff before picking up his bag. We left the classroom and headed towards the front doors of the school. School was over for today and I didn't really feel like doing much but going home, this whole thing with Olivia had kinda killed my mood. I opened the front doors and saw Courtney waiting there with a smile on her face.
"Hey babe" She said giving me a kiss.
"Hey" I said.
"Ready to go?" She asked.
"Yeah" I said slinging my arm around her.
We began walking when a voice called after us.
"Shayne!" The voice said.
I knew that voice. I turned around and saw Olivia standing there looking sad for some reason.
"Look who it is, the bitch spreading rumors about you" Courtney said with venom.
I sighed before deciding to confront her.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"I need to talk to you-" Olivia began.
"From what I hear, you've been talking about me already" I said.
"Wait let me explain" Olivia pleaded.
"C'mon babe lets go, don't let her drag you down" Courtney said.
I was about to follow her advice before Olivia gave me a pitiful look.
"Please?" Olivia asked.
"..Okay" I said.
"I want you to know that what people are saying isn't true, I never said those things about you" She said.
I looked at her in silence.
"The truth is, I don't have many friends... So when you guys wanted to be my friends, I was happy" She continued.
For some reason I found myself believing her.
"I wouldn't say these things about you because they aren't true and I don't want to lose you as friend" Olivia finished.
I felt.. guilty. Like I had just assumed that Olivia would say these things about me. I don't know her completely but from what I've seen she doesn't seem to be that type of person.
"...I'm sorry" I said to Olivia.
"Huh?" Courtney exclaimed from beside me.
Olivia looked like a flood of relief had washed over her.
"It's okay, can we still be friends?" Olivia asked.
"Oh come on dude just hug her already!" Damien said from behind us.
Haha, I had completely forgotten he was still here. Might as well take his advice though. I walked over to Olivia and gave her a friendly hug.
"My turn" Courtney said.
I let go and watched as Courtney gave Olivia a hug. It looked like she whispered something to her but it was probably none of my business.
"So wanna walk with us?" I asked Olivia.
"Sure" She said smiling.
We began our walk home with a renewed friendship. Although one thing was bugging me.
"Who would lie about you Olivia?" I wondered aloud.
"I don't know" She said looking away.
"Don't worry babe, I'll help you get to the bottom of it" Courtney said.
"Thanks, I can't stand liars" I said.
"Me either...." Courtney said.
I interlocked my fingers in hers and continued walking. I'm lucky I have amazing friends and such a caring girlfriend.
