As the patrol of, Goldenpaw, Fawnleap, Coalpelt, Waterpaw, Springtail, Firewhisker, Ravenfeather and Snowshine reached the lake around Heartclan Goldenpaw spotted the creaky, old bridge.
"We're going over that?" He asked quickly feeling embarrassed at his question.
"Yes don't worry if it were to fall it would've done so already," Springtail muttered. Goldenpaw nodded and stealthily they ran across the bridge. Goldenpaw was hit by the scent of blood, rogues and Heartclan all at once as they leapt into the battle. Trying to remember some more battle moves he spotted a strange cat he didn't recognize as a rogue or Heartclan staring at him then she leapt into the air and twisted around in mid air. Quickly Goldenpaw ran over to see who the cat was but instead he tripped over a crabshell and landed on his back.
"Oof"
As quick as lightning a rogue was on top of the apprentice and thinking on his back he battered his hind legs into the cats belly and when the cat backed up Goldenpaw bounced up and crouched down. With all his strength he pounced into the air and quickly twisted so he landed on the cats shoulders and clawed them. Then it hit him who the cat was, it was his mother Silvermoon. Struck with intense grief he let the cat sprint of over the bridge and stood there trying not to let out a sorrowful howl. Until he saw Purplepaw struggling under a she cat did he finally break out of his trance and slam the rogue off of her, instead of the rogue falling he did. Oh no Purplepaw will say something about that, he thought to himself while pushing himself up and biting into the mangy cats tail so he would yowl and pull away.
"Thanks..." Purplepaw said awkwardly rolling onto her paws. The embarrassed tom nodded and noticed all of the cats were yowling a victory as the last few rogues ran off realizing they were outnumbered. Purplepaw joined in and not wanting to seem weird so did Goldenpaw. Still filled with grief Goldenpaw slowly walked over to join the rest of his clan who were talking to Thornstar.
"I appreciate your clans help very much we couldn't have defeated those mange-pelts without you," Thornstar told Fawnleap quietly.
"We're happy to help I wish you good fortunes for the future," Fawnleap replied turning and leading the way back to the bridge flicking her newly torn ear. Following his mentor he realised that he had a scratch on his shoulder.
"We'll have to get Tinywish to see to that scratch," Goldenpaws father said keeping pace with him.
"No no it's fine," Goldenpaw said even though he was limping and it actually really hurt.
"Nonsense you don't want it getting infected," Springtail said curling his tail around his sons shoulder's, "I'm very proud of you today you fought well,"
Goldenpaw felt his ear tips heat up, "I didn't really it was more luck... I saw Silvermoon in the battle," He murmured.
Springtail paused and sighed, "Goldenpaw.. your mother is dead.."
"I know but I saw her ghost she showed me a battle move a leap then a twist," Goldenpaw told him.
Grief sparkled in Springtails glowing yellow eyes, "She always used that move..." He whispered.
Goldenpaw was sure his father believed him now he mentioned the battle move, he touched his nose to his father's shoulder comforting him.
When they walked back to camp Goldenpaw was sent to the medicine den to get his scratch treated. As Tinywish treated his scratch with dock Goldenpaw examined the medicine den trying not to wince at the sting. Tinywish wrapped some cobwebs around his shoulder,
"You can go now but come back to me tomorrow and your to rest no more apprentice duties until I saw," Tinywish told him before he walked out.
Before he went to the apprentice den he tried to spot Fawnleap in amongst the other cats and when he did he limped up to her.
"Tinywish told me I'm off of apprentice duties until she says I can resume," Goldenpaw told her.
"That's fine get well soon," Fawnleap replied nodding.
She's so kind to me! Goldenpaw thought to himself while walking into the apprentice den, Wait she's meant to be kind to me... She's still kind and helpful to anyone. Goldenpaw felt his ear tips burn as he thought about Fawnleap. She's your mentor you can't think of her that way that's just awkward, Goldenpaw scolded himself as he curled up in his nest. The apprentice layed his head on his paws and fell asleep.
