The trees flew past him in a blur as Mitch ran through the old, dark forest in an attempt to escape whatever was chasing him. His muscles were burning, screaming at him to stop and take a break, but Mitch was determined to keep going. Pains erupted in his sides, his lungs burning and mouth dry, his throat feeling like Velcro every time he took a breath. He turned his head to see if it was chasing him still, but that, of course, was his downfall, and quite literally. The darkness had prevented his vision from going more than a mere three feet in front of him, and that meant that when he was looking behind him, he had not had the chance to see the gaping hole, courtesy of an old mine shaft that had yet to be blocked up, nor did he have a chance to stop himself from falling to his ultimate peril.
However, that peril was short lived. He hit the bottom of the shaft, but was not killed, nor injured except for the few small bruises and scrapes from running. The water had broken his fall. Mitch looked up to see the bright moon light blocked by a sort of large beast head looking down at him. He froze. Soon, the creature had walked away and Mitch let out a breath that he had been holding for far too long. He looked around him, the moon light making things more visible, looking for a ledge he could climb up on to. Once he located one, he swam over to it and pulled himself up, fixing his messy hair a bit and squeezing out some of the water. Mitch then began looking around for a way out, but to no avail. As he realised he was trapped, he slid down the old, rotting post, tears slowly making their way down his cheeks. If he had only stayed home like his mother had told him to, if he had only listened, but no, he decided he wanted to go for a midnight walk.
Mitch's head snapped up at the sound of faint breathing coming from farther into the cave, then footsteps following behind. "Hello?" He called out into the darkness, only causing the sound to cease. "Hello? Is anyone there?" He called again. This time, curiosity got the best of him and he decided to get up and walk around the water to see if he could find anyone or any way out of this place. The cave floor was wet with the water which had been splashed out from the deep puddle of which Mitch had landed in when falling, his feet making gentle noises with each step. The stone walls, jagged edges making it so you couldn't touch them, were dripping with what Mitch assumed to be water, but was wrong. It wasn't blood, no, it was something else, sticky and a light blue, though still transparent.
"Hello?" Mitch called out again, only this time he did get a response.
"Hello!" A little voice chirped.
"W-Who are you?" Mitch asked, his nerves sky-rocketing as well as his heart rate.
The voice giggled highly in response, it echoing off of the walls of the cave. Just then, a small light, maybe the size of a Loonie (Canadian Dollar Coin at the top), appeared in the distance, it's blue light reflecting off of the wet walls. Curious, Mitch began slowly walking to the light having never seen such a bright light in his entire life. As he got closer, the light got bigger and bigger, only drawing him in more, though his mind was screaming danger and telling him to back up and run away. Pushing the thoughts aside, Mitch reached out to the light, which was now maybe a little smaller than a soccer ball, and was about to lay his fingers on it when he faltered, now heeding his minds warnings.
"Go ahead, it won't hurt." The voice spoke airily, luring him in even more.
He reached his hand out once again, the voice holding some sort of hypnosis, his sensitive finger tips feeling the heat radiating off of the orb. Almost as if it was some sort of wake up call, his mind screamed at him and he yanked his hand back, the heat almost burning him.
"Touch It!" The voice hissed. A sound started coming from around him, a melodic tune, pulling him further into the hypnosis, until his mind snapped him out of it. He whipped around to see where the noise was coming from, only causing his arm to hit the orb, Mitch hissing in pain. The chanting melody began to get louder, the light burning brighter than before if even possible, his eyes burning from the brightness. "YESSSSS!" He heard the voice say until the pain from the burn and his eyes was too much for his body to handle and he passed out, his limp body hitting the hard ground with a smacking sound.
Mitch woke with a start, breathing in heavily until he realised he was in his bed, the light beaming through the windows, scaring him slightly. His breathing evened out when his mind came to the conclusion that it was only a nightmare and that he was safe. He went to get up, pushing himself out of his bed with his arms, when he felt a flaring pain shoot through his arm, sending his heart beat mad. Slowly, he stood up and lifted his sleeve to see a burn mark, one that would for sure form a scar.

Mitch breathed in deep as he remembered that night that had occurred so many years ago, two centuries to be exact, back in the year 1816. Back then he had his life planned out but now he was a free spirit, going wherever his life, or more like light and energy, took him.
