Best Friends

We lay with our heads at separate ends of the couch, our legs draped lazily across each other. We're watching a movie in the apartment we share.

We've been friends since grade school, some how sticking together all the years through all the drama. Things had been a lot easier on us since college started though. That whole "rooming with your best friend is a bad idea" thing just didn't apply to us I guess.

I feel something bring me out of my thoughts. A tickle on my foot. My leg spasms a bit and I shriek a little. I look to the boy siting across from me with a glare.

"You just kicked me in the chest!"

"You ticked me! You deserved it!" I yell, laughing.

"That's it!" He lunges over my legs and starts tickling my stomach, sides, under arms, everywhere he knows I'm ticklish. I wiggling and squirm, laughing the whole time.

I wiggle a bit too much and nearly fall off then couch. I shriek as I start to fall, but before I slip fully, his arms wrap around my waist and keep me up. Our faces are so close together, his breath warm against my face.

Have I always wanted to kiss him this much?

He looks into my eyes as I look into his. The same eyes I've always known, but now different? The way they're looking at me. That wasn't how they looked at me yesterday. Was it?

His face inches closer to mine. I look from his eyes to his lips then back to his eyes. He does the same to me. Are we really thinking the same thing?

He closes the gap and lightly presses his lips against mine. I feel fireworks in my stomach. He breaks away and looks at me.

I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him again. His arms tighten around me, bringing me even closer. He shifts so that I'm completely underneath him.

He starts a trail of kisses over my jaw and down my neck. His lips meet mine again, and it's like everything inside me melts.

I pull away and say, "I think I love you in a way I didn't even realize before today."

He smiles at me and says, "I love you too. I've known this for awhile now but I'm glad you caught up eventually."

I run my hand through his hair, my head still spinning from everything that's just happened. He lays on his side next to me and I turn to face him.

"What do you say to nap time?" He asks holding his arms out. I go into them happy. Nothing could be better than this. He pulls me close to his chest and I drift off to sleep to the beat of his heart.

The heart of my best friend, the one who's stuck with me from day one, the one by my side through everything, my love.
