ALYSSA
"Wake up! Come on we're going to the beach!" I woke up to my little sister jumping on my stomach, but I didn't want to dampen the sudden excitement which consumed her. I looked into the eyes of a toothless little six year old. Black hair and torquiose eyes like the Caribbean sea. Replica of me, except I wasn't missing one of my front teeth, that is.
"Okay Hailey, I'm gonna get dressed." She jumped off my bed and ran out the room like something had possessed her legs, and slammed the door on her way out. A wave of dizziness came through. Probably because I hadn't gotten up off my bed—neither had I had any sleep—since two weeks ago, when I found out that Jake was cheating on me. Well, cheat is an understatement. Using someone is far worse.
We'd been together for two years and so I wanted to have a little dinner celebration. He had canceled because he was sick with a cold. I stopped by Walgreen's and picked up a box of tissues, some hand sanitizer, and some snacks along with a couple of movies that we were both dying to watch, but just never had the time. I had a key to his apartment, so that was never a problem.
I left the parking lot and drove over to his place. Once I was in the elevator I saw Jake's neighbor, Jessie."Hey Jessie, how are you? I haven't seen you in a while." I asked her.
"I'm good. How's Jake?" She asked.
"Oh he's fine, just a little sick so I came over to see him." Jessie wasn't looking at me anymore. Instead she was looking at the ground, as if she was dying for that elavator door to open so she could dash right out of it like an inflamed firework.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
"No nothing, I just thought you were already in his apartment. I thought you had slept over last night." She responded, staring me in the eye now. It was clear that something was up, but I wasn't going to pry the information out of her.
"Oh, no I didn't." That's weird. Why would she think I had slept over? I wanted to ask her, but I wasn't going to. The elevator stopped on our floor and she strided out the door.
"Bye, I'll see you later." I said. She waved at me and went into her apartment. I wasn't going to knock on the door. If I wanted to surprise him I would have to quietly walk in myself. So I took the keys out of my purse and quietly unlocked the door. But when I walked in, I sensed that he probably wasn't alone.
