ALYSSA

We got to the beach and I helped my mom set up the beach chairs and the blanket for my little sister.

"Can we build a sand castle Al?" Hailey bellowed from the beach blanket.

"Sure Hails." I smiled at her, and she returned a grateful chuckle. I sat at the corner of the blanket and pushed up some sand into her sand castle bucket and connected it to the ones she'd already made. After a little while, she left me making the castles by myself.

I looked out into the crystal waters of the beach. The view was heavenly, only i could've enjoyed it better. I really needed to take my mind off this...

"You know Hailey, I was going to get some ice cream, and I wanted you to come with me. But it looks like you're not interested, so forget it." Her face lit up like a newly lit match.

"Let's go!" Hailey grabbed my arm and nearly dragged me off the blanket. I was shocked but the forcefulness of her pull. How could a six-year-old be that strong? I guess that's just how much she wanted ice cream.
