CYRENE

She rode Hibi hard. They needed to put as much distance between themselves and Siwili as possible. She needed to find help, someone to help share the truth to the rest of the Skulk. "Tokala is the closest village. We can reach it within a day if we don't stop."

"Cy," Galena said softly, "they would anticipate you going there- where your sister is. The King has probably already sent a pigeon warning the Chief."

"We are going there not for Gwen." Cyrene denied. She loved her sister, but she could not waste the time to try and find her and warn her to stay hidden from the Lobos. Lord Deimos would be not far behind them, following her scent trail. He would be able to track her easily because of the claiming mark. "We are going because it is the closest village with another Lead- Lead Kohn is there. He accompanied some of the Lobo warriors there to collect women. He will be our best chance to tell the other Leads the truth."

Galena tightened her hold and continued, "How will we get into the village? They surely will have soldiers on the lookout for us."

"I don't know, but we have time to figure that out. We have to share the truth to the Skulk. The Leads have guided our people a long time. They will know what to do." Cyrene tapped Hibi, urging him to run faster.

DEIMOS

He could be no more than a few hours behind her, the scent trail was still fresh. He could feel her determination in the Bond. And her fatigue. The power of the Bond was like nothing he had felt before. He was stronger, faster, his whole body seemed more aware of his surroundings. It was amazing. He could feel the berserker's desire to take control and test these enhanced alpha abilities. With the combined power of the war spirit and the Bond, Deimos would be near unstoppable. The berserker was pleased with this.

Yet, he felt incomplete. The Bond was imbalanced, unfulfilled. He needed to fully claim his mate, the bite alone was insufficient. The need to possess her was growing every minute since he had tasted her blood in his mouth. When he found her, he would take what he was owed. No more waiting. No more teasing. He needed to fully claim her as mate for himself and in the eyes of the Lobo or she would be in danger from his warriors. The woman had put an arrow through their king. He would punish her for her actions, but the other warriors would demand blood.

They would have no mercy on her- a woman. Lobo tribes were not lenient with their women like these southern tribes. They learned from an early age what was expected from them, they were to submit to their alpha or they would be submitted and punished. This kept their women safe from any threats, including other alphas. A defiant woman challenged her alpha. This was dangerous for her. A woman attacking an alpha was forbidden unless her children were threatened. A woman, especially an omega woman, would become rabid and fearless to protect her children. Outside of the mother-rage, an omega or beta woman would never be able to defeat an alpha if she attacked him. They were weak compared to the strength of an alpha. If the alpha reacted physically to a challenge or attack, he could maim or kill the woman. All Lobo women knew the laws. Cyrene would learn.

Laran rode beside him, no trace of pain on his face, but Deimos knew the wound had to hurt. He would have to punish his mate harshly for this, so that she never repeated the behavior and his warriors would be appeased that an appropriate punishment was delivered. They would not accept anything less. He almost regretted this, to be the one to punish her. But she needed to be tamed, to know her place as woman, as an omega.

CYRENE

They rode for several hours in the dark. Galena finally telling her that she needed to relieve herself. Cyrene led Hibi behind a small hill, hiding them from the view of anyone traveling along the road. She stretched her limbs and waited for her friend. She suddenly heard a noise coming from the road, heading from the direction of the village. A horse and rider.
