CYRENE

She woke the next morning to the soft orange light of early dawn through the stretched fabric that made up the walls of her tent. She heard the men outside shuffling about, talking to one another. She never slept this late, she was always up before the sun. She had slept well, surprisingly. Once Lord Deimos left, she had done just what he told her and buried her own hand between her legs.

It had not taken long for her to find her climax, as worked up as she was. She flushed at the thought. She rarely touched herself. The few times she had, it had taken her a long time to reach orgasm. Yet both times with Deimos she had climbed quickly. She could not deny her lust for him, though it shamed her to admit it. He obviously knew his way around a woman's body. And that low growl, his purr, she assumed. She had heard stories of an alpha's purr, a sound that would soothe an omega. She snarled at herself, reaching for her travel pack. She should not be reacting to him this way! She pulled out the pouch of Rue, and took twice the usual amount. The damned herb was supposed to be suppressing her omega instincts. Yet she became soft as clay last night when he purred for her.

Standing, she straightened her limbs, stretching them, testing the soreness. It felt like she had a week's worth of rest rather than a single night. Her shoulders, though still sore, felt strong. She could lift her arms above her head without real pain, only a lingering soreness. She bent down into a deep squat, testing her legs and found the same. No pain. Only a soreness, like after a long run. The bruises on her forearms and shins had faded to an ugly yellow-brown color, and were much lighter. She checked the wound on her leg, pleased when saw the dried skin around the stitches. They were ready to come out. Fetching her dagger from beneath the bed roll, she removed them quickly. Then she inspected her abdominal wound. Still heavily bruised, but it too, appeared as though it was several days old. The swelling around the stitches had disappeared. Both wounds would scar. She was covered in them. She wondered if Lord Deimos found them ugly, then shook her head at herself. Who gave a shit about what he thought?!

She picked up the cloth strips she had cut yesterday from Hibi's blanket, but they were all crusted with blood. She sighed and cut a strip from her sleeping blanket, wrapping it securely around her middle. Dressing quickly in her leggings and tunic, she slid her dagger in her boot, tied her quiver around her waist, and slid her arm through the string of her bow, resting it against her shoulder blade. Packing her remaining few belongings, she began breaking down the tent and securing items to Hibi's back.

Looking around, she saw she was one of the last ready for the day's ride. She searched the men for Lord Deimos. Thankfully not seeing him, she searched for Thana. The only other female in the group, she was one of the archers under her command. Spotting her quickly, Cyrene guided Hibi next to her mare's side.

"Lead," Thana said respectfully. "You all right?"

Cyrene appreciated the beta female's presence more than the woman could know. She would need aid. She planned on avoiding a certain Lobo warrior for the remainder of this journey. Going to her Commander or one of the male Raposo soldiers was out of the question. They would view her as weak. She met the other woman's eyes. "I will be, but I need your help."

DEIMOS

He glared at her. She was using the other woman as a shield. She had ridden next to her all day, and now the two were sharing a tent. He could not decide if it was an intelligent move or a cowardly one. He had planned on seeing her again tonight.

"You watch her always, brother." The voice of his king made him turn away from his female. Laran was grinning at him, obviously enjoying how much the woman distracted him.

"When you meet your fated one, Laran, I hope she gives you far less problems." Deimos chuckled. "We arrive in Siwili tomorrow. Do we send the men to collect the omegas in the village immediately, or let them rest another night?"
