"Today, we will be learning about the Nervous System," said Mr. Clarke.
The whole class groaned and so would I, if I didn't have my head buried in my arms. Science was just horribly boring and I couldn't be bothered with it. Why is a thirteen year old still learning about the Nervous System?!At least I had Alex in that class, but he hated it more than I did and every time that we were in that class, he would get all grumpy.
I heard the door open and Mr. Clarke say "This must be the new student."Out of curiosity, I looked up and saw a red-headed girl walking before Mr. Clarke stopped her.
"This is our new student, Maxine Mayfield."
The girl clearly looked annoyed but Mr. Clarke kept that enthusiastic attitude that he always has."Max," said the girl, finally uttering just one word.
"Huh?" questioned Mr. Clarke,
"It's Max. Not Maxine. Just Max."
"Well, welcome to our class, Max," said Mr. Clarke as this Max girl went to go sit down.I looked at my friend Dustin but he was looking back at Max along with his friends.
"Please tell me that they're gonna spare her…" I said to Alex but got no reply back.
I looked at him and saw that he had that same look on his face that Dustin and his friends had."She can't be that pretty, Alex!" I teased Alex as we walked together to our lockers. Alex never took a interest to any girl other than me before. At some point, I even started to think that he was gay! But this Max girl was definitely something to him.
"Oh come on, don't you see her silky red hair and her beautiful blue eyes…" muttered Alex with a dreamy look on his face, looking off at Max who was a few lockers down.
I rolled my eyes at him, sometimes he could be a real idiot when he liked someone. So I told him just that.
"I hope you realize how stupid you're being," I told him, getting my things out of my locker and shutting it. "She's literally just got here and you're already drooling over her!"Alex crossed his arms, "I'm not drooling over her."
"I just think she's very pretty.""Oh yeah?" I laughed as a plan started to stir up in my mind. "Who are you trying to convince?"
I grabbed his arm and walked over to Max who was just about to leave the school.
"Hi there!" I greeted and watched Alex nearly fall to his knees when he saw Max up close.
She turned around and gave us a bored look, but gave me a nod as if to say go on. To be honest, I felt pretty intimidated.
"So, my name's Kelsey," I said, and then put my hand on Alex's shoulder and gave him a little shove towards Max. "And this is my good friend Alex!"I looked over at Alex whose legs were shaking and almost burst into laughter right there. I crossed my arms and it was a good five seconds before he talked to her.
"Um…my name's Alex, but you already know that because she already told you…" said Alex, briefly stuttering over his own words.
Max nodded but you could clearly see how bored she was. I decided to cut Alex off right there because I could tell that this was not going very well."What he's trying to say is that we know that you're new here and we figured that you might need some friends."
"Am I that readable?" she asked, a smirk slowly forming on her face.
I laughed but looked at Alex who had a frown on his face.
"Well, we were just wondering if you wanted to go trick or treating with us?"
I could see Alex nearly piss himself and he looked at me in shock.Max looked like she was thinking pretty hard before she nodded. "Yeah, I guess so…" she said, putting her backpack on.
We both exchanged addresses and then Alex and I left before saying bye.
As soon as we turned around, I could see Dustin and his friend Lucas looking at us. To me, they looked pretty bummed."I can't believe that you invited her to trick or treat with us!" Said Alex as he paced around my room.
"Oh come on, don't be so nervous! Obviously, she liked us and you should take this chance to get to know her better!" I reminded him as I looked through my previous Halloween costumes.
"I guess you're right," said Alex but I could still hear the fear laced in his voice.
"Look, how many guys get to hang out with a cool new girl on their first day?" I asked him, settling on one of my bunny onesies. I couldn't fit any of my other Halloween costumes anymore, okay?
I walked back over to Alex and laid my costume on the bed. He looked at it with utter disgust."You're gonna wear that while we're trick or treating?" He asked, ignoring what I said.
"Yes, I am! I bet she'll like it!" I playfully said and plopped myself down on the bed.
"No…I bet she'll think you're crazy!" He told me, then he let out a big sigh. "I hope she likes me…she showed almost no interest in me!"
"Give her some time, it is her first day and she was probably just trying to get home. You know how tough first days can be."
