"No, no, no, no, no!" Laney cried vehemently, shaking the utensil back and forth in front of Tanner's nose, "That is not how you use a fork!"

Tanner blinked up at the riled girl from his seat at the kitchen table in obvious bewilderment. I could almost hear what he was thinking: Who is this crazy chick and why is she pointing sharp objects at me? Of course I'd be wondering the same if in his current predicament.

"Then what is it for?" he asked.

"EATING!" she shouted in exasperation, "Not combing your hair, that's disgusting!"

The Little Mermaid didn't seem to think so.

"You can't really blame him for not knowing," Matt piped.

He stood leaning against the granite countertop while I sat atop it beside him, legs swinging in boredom. They'd been at this for hours and still Tanner showed no progress. Last night we had all come to an agreement that before Tanner even attempted to ask Erin out he first must learn the ways of us land dwellers.

To say the very least, things haven't exactly been going in our favor.

Tanner shot his fellow male a grateful look while Laney tugged at her curls in frustration. I really hope she doesn't leave any bald spots.

"Relax Laney," Matt told her, "Maybe we just need to find a different approach."

"Or a different teacher," Tanner coughed not so discreetly, and I couldn't prevent the giggle that slipped past my lips. Laney has lots of great traits, but she owns about as much patience as piranhas at dinner time.

Definitely not teacher material.

"I see Kerrie has taught you sarcasm," she quipped, letting her temper get the best of her, "I guess fish are capable of learning after all."

"Oh I'm capable," he assured her, grinning, "Your teaching techniques belong in the local ship wrecks."

Laney tossed her arms up in defeat.

"I give up!"

It was only a matter of time.

I felt a light nudge at my knee and eyed Matt questionably.

"Why don't you give it a shot?" he whispered, "I'm sure Tanner would be more cooperative."

I highly doubted that.

"Do I have to?" I whispered back.

He shrugged uncaringly.

"Well you don't have to, he could just stay here with you forever, and ever, and ever."

Curse reverse psychology.

I gave him the dirtiest look I could muster before hopping off the countertop and reluctantly occupying the empty chair across from fish boy. Tanner merely stared, watching me with an expectant expression.

"Okay," I exhaled, grabbing a fork, "This is a fork. It is sharp at the tips to stick into the food and allow it to be brought to your mouth, got it?"

Tanner nodded.

I set the fork aside and picked up a spoon.

"This is a spoon." I stated, "Judging by it's shape, how do you thinks it's used?"
