I liked coming out here in spring when all the flowers were in first bloom or in fall when the leaves on the trees were just starting to change colors. This place was like a refuge to me a nice quiet place to read or just think. I took a seat on the Victorian gazebo normally Derrick would just stand there on look out as I read a book but Jackson took the empty spot next to me.
We started off with small talk Jackson was quite pleasant to talk to normal even. It felt sort of weird at first I didn't want a repeat of what happened between me and Derrick but Jackson felt different like we could be real friends.
After a while with the small talk I still had a burning question "So dish. What's the story with you and sour puss?" Jackson laughed
"Now that is a long story."
"Seeing as I am on house arrest I think we'd have enough time to discuss the Roman-Persian war."
"Maybe you are as smart as they say."
"Nope I'm smarter than they say but most people know the longest war in history was the Roman-Persian War."
"Actually I am pretty sure they wouldn't."
"Well I had a lot of free time on my hands so I read. I think I have read every book in the library at least once." I spent a lot of time in there the last couple of weeks. I ignored Derrick at all cost sitting in one corner of the library and while, he set in the other. The room was big enough for both our egos.
Realizing I had done exactly what he was hoping I would I said "Stop changing the subject I never know anything that goes on here. At least give me the short version of the story. Please." I threw in a little begging hoping that might help me get the story out of him.
"Okay short version." I nodded "Madison" I waited several minutes on him to elaborate but nothing.
"Who is Madison?" Maybe it was a girl the two fault over but which one won her
"Madison was my sister." Well at least I know it wasn't a two guys one girl thing "Madison was a year younger than me. My mom use to make me take her with me when I went out. So of course she started hanging out with all my friends." Jackson paused
"What does that have to do with Derrick?"
"Derrick and I were best friends. We use to do everything together he was always with me my mom said we were each other's shadows you never seen one without the other. Madison and Derrick had always been friends but when we got to high school their friendship changed." OH I didn't need him to elaborate on that part I could tell by the way he said it that he mean they were more than friends.
"I guess you didn't like that."
"No just the opposite I loved Madison and Derrick was like a brother I knew he would never hurt her. So believe it or not I was okay with it."
"I'm lost if you didn't have a problem with it what happened to make you to hate each other?" Jackson ran his hand through his hair while taking a deep breath.
"It was the week before Derrick and I were leaving for training so our friends and family through us a going away party. I had a little too much to drink so Madison was driving us home. Next thing I know a guy pulls out in front of us. Madison swerved to keep from hitting the car but we left the road and hit a tree head on. I woke up my truck was empty Madison was gone. I looked everywhere for her when the cops got there they couldn't find anything. Took me hours to make them believe I wasn't lying about not driving. I kept telling them I wasn't alone that my sister was still out here. By the time Derrick arrived and backed my story up two hours had passed. We never found Madison and Derrick blames we for it to this day." I set there in silence just looking at Jackson I shouldn't have pushed him to tell me.
