My mornings always started out the same breakfast consisting of egg whites and dry toast with orange juice to drink. Derrick was standing guard in the corner of the room. I hadn't tried to sneak away all morning and that seemed to put him on edge even more than normal. "You are more than welcome to have a seat I promise to be good."

"I believe we have two different definitions of what good is so no thank you."

"Did you get any sleep last night?" I doubt very seriously that he slept at all he was at my door last night and still there this morning. I think me being decent was bothering him more than if I was just my normal unhappy self.

"Good morning Ms. Carmichael."

"Good morning Roberta" Roberta had been my nanny since my mom disappeared I guess she was the closest thing I had to a mother figure over the last four years.

"It's time for your medicine." Ugh I hated this part of my mornings. I was the sign of perfect health except for an iron deficiency. Right before my mother disappeared I had spent a week in bed deathly ill. I will never forget the pain from that week so I deal with the morning shots I figured it's better than screaming in pain.

"Yeah I'm finished here anyway." I stood up from the table and followed Roberta into the library. I know it sounds like a weird place to get a shot but I liked books especially when I was younger. I like the smell and the thought of all the knowledge held in this room. It was peaceful and I was usually the only one that used the room.

Derrick walked in behind us and shut the door. Normally he just stood outside the doors while I received my shot in the butt. "What do you think you are doing? You can't be in here while Ms. Carmichael gets her shot."

"I have my orders not to let her out of my sight for one second and I follow my orders." That made Roberta uncomfortable but it just made me laugh uncontrollably.

"It's okay he can stay besides I plan on taking a shower later so he is going to see a lot more than just my backside." Roberta's eyes when wide

"Your father is taking this to far I refuse to have you treated like a cheap harlot." I was just about to comment on Roberta referring to me as a cheap whore when I realized that Derrick had mumbled something.

"What did you just say?" He stood there without a word. "Please tell me I didn't hear you say I didn't need my father's help for that." I was walking toward him "Please tell me you're not insinuating I am a whore." I was standing within inches of him he didn't back down but he didn't speak either. "I think it would be in your best interest to leave."

"Don't threaten me little one I don't like to be threatened." As much as I wanted to punch him I had promised my dad I would be good and finding out what was going on here meant much more to me than giving him a nose bleed. So I walked over to the door and opened it.

"Leave now."

"No" He walked over to me and reached for the door to shut it so I did what any self respecting young lady would do. I pushed him as hard as I could. He wasn't expecting it so he stumbled back just enough for me to slam the door. I had it locked milliseconds before he was pounding on it.

"You open this door right now." I turned toward Roberta who in my astonishment was smiling.

Roberta administered my shot as we listened to Derrick beat on the door. I was tucking in my shirt when everything went quite outside. I opened the door and was face to face with my father. "I knew you couldn't keep your promise I knew you couldn't be good for one day. Not that I actually expected from you."
